Vera Eileen Murphy

Vera Eileen MurphyVera Eileen Murphy passed away on October 6, 2010 at Morningstar Retirement Home. She was born on March 28, 1916 to Thomas and Ella Thompson in Lyman , Washington . She was a graduate of Washington State College (now Washington State University ) where she majored in Health and Physical Education and Home Economics. While at WSU she became a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. After college Vera taught school for 3 years before marrying James (Jim) Edward Murphy of Washtucna , Washington . For the ensuing 69 years of married life Jim and Vera became successful wheat and cattle ranchers before retiring. Vera was an active member of her community participating in the Progressive Club, Washtucna Community Church , served as a Girl Scout Leader for 54 years, and was a member of the Grange, Washington Wheat Growers, and the Western Cattleman’s Association. For the last 6 years she and Jim were snowbirds living in Hemet , California during the winter months with their daughter Jerilee and her husband John. During that time she attended First Presbyterian Church and was a member of Chapter AE, P.E.O. Vera is survived by her husband James, son Mickey Murphy (wife Linda), and her daughter Jerilee (husband John Crossman). She is also survived by six granddaughters, Nanette, Shelley, Kate, Sarah, Erin, and Becky and seven great grandchildren, Brandon, Dylan, Sean, Jenna, Dani, Logan and Jacob.A celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 515 Kimball St. , Hemet , CA . Dr. Larry Thorson and Rev. Jim Karcher will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to: Chapter AE, P.E.O., and sent to Corresponding Secretary, Gayle Petersen 934 S.
