“Anam Cara” is a book of Celtic Wisdom that Both Bill and I read many years ago. We decided Anam Cara fit us perfectly. We used this term, MYAC or YRAC in communication with each other.  Anam Cara in Gaelic means “soul friend”.
Bill was my cousin, 5 years my senior. I knew him my whole life!  We had a bond that lasted a lifetime.
A number of years ago Bill came to SoCal to live in my home. We enjoyed our time together so much. We did a lot of reminiscing often. From time to time we took some 
road trips. Bill made friends with the people closest to me including my 4 grown children and my 6 Grandchildren.  I did the same whenever his children and grandchildren were able to visit us. Bill and I had a very comfortable life together.
8 years ago my first great grandson came into our lives followed by 2 sisters who are now 3 and 4. Bill loved these 3 kiddos and they loved him.
I spent the evening of the day Bill passed with my family at my oldest grandsons home.
Our little Harper who is 4 was so sad.  She told me Papa Bill is in Heaven.  I took her outside to see the stars and told her the stars are the windows of heaven and Papa Bill will always be watching over us.  She got a smile on her face and said I love Papa .
We will all miss him

Bill was a very special person in my life.
He will be in my heart forever.  He was MYAC.

I am going to sound like a broker record! I too, was a younger cousin of Bill.  We also lived in California when he was at Camp Pendleton!  Bill would also come and visit our house sometimes when he was on leave!  I know that he was always good to me and to my mom and dad!  We loved having him visit!  I always looked up to Bill.  He was very bright, and always very kind!  I have not seen Bill in many, many years, but I will certainly miss him!  The one thing that I am sure about, the Knights in Heaven will be welcoming him with open arms, and will certainly be giving many hugs and kisses upon his arrival!  There may not be much joy here, but there it will be a celebration!  I was blessed to know and love him!

Bill was my cousin, and he was stationed at Camp Pendleton when I was oh, maybe 9 to 13 years old. Unlike most of the other Marines stationed there, instead of spending their precious leave days out drinking and partying, he would come to  our house on those days. He was the very picture you might see on a poster for the Marine Corp. 100% sharp in dress and deed, there was no chore he wouldn’t tackle to help my mom and dad, but the one he excelled at most was building milk shakes and sundaes. He and my Dad would argue over the tiny amount of milk that they included in those shakes. “Not too much now, we don’t want to dilute the flavor of the ice cream,” they would say. His visits up to see us were always full of smiles and laughter. 
I believe he was posted to Embassy duty in India after he left Camp Pendleton, and I was not to see him again until I was a grown man. After 2 tours of duty in Vietnam he retired from the Marine Corp and moved his family to Sydney Australia to be closer to his wife Charlottes family. I was about 31 or so when I decided I wanted to go to Australia, and of course Bill and family insisted I stay with them when I told them I was coming.
We made arrangements to meet at the bus station in downtown Sydney, and I arrived there right on time, but I guess Bill must have gotten hung up by something, so I sat down to read my book and wait for him. I would scan the crowd every so often, but my spit and polished cousin was a no show. Finally, I saw a guy who was also clearly looking for someone. But he had long hair and was at least 45 or so. It hadn’t occurred to me that I had arrived disguised as a hippie, with my long hair and beard, or that he might not look quite the same as he had when we saw each other last.
I finally decided to walk closer and check this guy out. My disguise was pretty good as I had been working on it for about 10 or 12 years, but when we were about 3 feet apart I took the chance and said, “Bill?”, and he said, “Bobby”? We hugged and slapped each other on the back as we laughed about nearly missing each other there in the bus station. 
He was such a good man, and he is dearly missed. Thank you Sean, for giving me the opportunity to share these memories.
