Just Heifers
I spent my 5th & 6th grade summers on Uncle YM's persimmon farm, where I learned to be one with nature. We fished, harvested fruit and veggies for lunch and dinner. We shot squirrels with 22 rifles, drowned other vermin in his traps and walked the fields and property. Quite an experience! I was in charge of the cows especially Jaime. I would let the cows out to graze and find them before the sunset and lead them back in. Uncle YM allowed me to earn great memories that summer. The next summer I came and learned new lessons as well as tricks on the pool table. We would read together and go over all his artifacts. Then it was time for dinner...Aunt Becky cooked a delicious meal and served me the biggest piece of steak I have ever seen, to date! I enjoyed every last morsel. While eating dessert Uncle YM asked me how I enjoyed it. I said it was amazing! I remember Aunt Becky saying "No Mr. G, don't tell her". He said "That's good you enjoyed it, because it was Jaime" I gasped and asked him why? He lovingly said, "Well you see this is why we bought her, but this will be the last time I name one, it was hard and from now on they are just heifers". Good times Uncle, the kids love when I share that story it never gets old when we eat steak. You will be greatly missed Uncle YM.

Please accept our condolences on your lost. Although we never met Yshmael, we know his namesake well. Certainly to have such a wonderful son, he must have an exceptional man and the loss a heavy one. May flights of angels carry him to his rest.

So many cherished memories
Uncle YM gave me a gift I will cherish forever, a link to my Dad!!! Very young when his brother, my dad died, Uncle YM who was also my Godfather made sure we knew stories, he made sure we knew everything he could think of to keep us connected to our paternal family. I have so many memories! I loved every trip I took to visit him and my Aunt Becky and everyone else. I remember growing up, we were there so often visiting at the factory or the house. My first experience bowling and playing pool was with my Uncle and Aunt! So many trips and so many wonderful memories. I loved him so very much and although time flies and visits weren't as often as I grew older, when they did occur it was as if no time passed! He could do that! Not see me for years and when he did, it was just as great as any other visit! He had stories for us from the Garcia vault of memories and he never failed to remind us that he loved my dad and us! One of the most amazing things that I will remember forever is that he always let me hold his hand when I would see him. My Uncle knew that was huge for me because he had my dads exact hands! They were like twin hands! He knew I liked to see them because when I saw his hands it gave me such joy! He was an amazing man, Uncle and Godfather. My son, Max loved him so much! He loved visiting him the few times he did in his young life. There is just too many memories and too many stories to tell and That is such a blessing. Rest in peace my dear Uncle!

Yshmael lives on in our hearts and minds.

The Water Witch
I remember when my Dad,Jackie, and I, drove through Corona, before there homes.To help my Uncle Ym. On his farm, in Winchester Ca. Every other weekend we would head out to the farm. There was this one time, where Uncle Ym.and Dad were having a conversation about where to place the water tank. Uncle said, we had to find water. So he asked us to look for sticks, or branches. He broke off a branch from a bush and proceeded to clean it
I followed beside him as I was watched him holding that branch, the end began to pulse up and dowm. I was amazed to see my Uncle as he walked around with what he called a water witch. When the branch tip began to bend down ward. He stopped and shouted.This is the spot!! Let's dig! And yes, Lord and behold we struck water.... There are many memories.. And those I will be happy, to share with my children. Thank you Uncle Ym.for being there after Dad's passing.. And also for sharing the beautiful memories about my Grandparents, my Aunt's, and Uncles. You will be missed greatly.

A Surprise Gift
Prior to my Mother being diagnosed with Alzheimers's, she would wake up in the morning and attempt to get off the bed, only to fall and this was happening quite often, so the doctor restricted her to bed. To take her to her doctor's appointment, I would ask one of the neighbors to help me carry my mother to the car and then when I got to the appointment I would borrow a wheelchair.  I don't know how the news got to YM, but one day when my Father, Mother and I returned from one of my Mothers doctor appointments, there on the porch was a brand new wheelchair and on it was a note:

"Hola Tia, esta es para Uds. Yshmael"

My Mother smiled, but my Father and I were i tears.

Shoe Shine Boy
I remember being responsible for shinning my Fathers shoes, I was about 7 years old.  I would hold up with two hands each shoe and lament how long it would take to shine and polish such enormous shoes. It seemed at the time as if he had 20 pairs. But my Father worked long hours and by shinning those shoes I felt close to him, he was larger than life.  Even today I could never fill those large shoes.  I will miss the Man I used as my yard stick, and whom no other man quite measured up against.

Very sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in our loving God's promise of a resurrection here on earth. During these times of sadness may you find guidance in God's word in the Bible. Isaiah 25:8 & Jeremiah 29:11.

Stuckeys Road Trip
After my dad died, Uncle YM was always there for us. He told us stories that helped keep my dad alive and helped us make new memories. From the factory to the Chinese restaurant with the great chicken, to Oceanside beaches and Chino swap meets... Really too many to share here....But the one I always cherish most was when my sister Ruth married, he and Aunt Becky came to the wedding and as they were leaving to head back home... Literally in the car with us standing on sidewalk saying our goodbyes, he said "come on girls lets go on a road trip". Emi and I packed our bags and off we went. He took the long way back, taking us to the rock formations and even through Las Vegas... But the best part was Stuckeys. We stopped at every one on the way to California so we could eat burgers with double cheese and tomatoes (I had never had such a great burger). Now, you don't see Stuckeys much but every single time we go anywhere out of town I always remember him telling me "this is the best thing you'll eat". Uncle YM and Aunt Becky kept the legacy of my dad alive for us... They always made sure we were connected in some way... I greatly miss him and cherish who he was to us... Thank you Uncle YM
