

Our beloved Avery Rashawn Burton passed away on August 6, 2017. Born in Reno, Nevada he came into this world on October 16, 1994. He was an outdoor enthusiast who loved to hike with family and friends. A 2017 graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Kinesiological Sciences, he made the Dean’s List with a 3.8 grade point average. He planned to apply to the UNLV Physical Therapy Program in December to pursue a doctoral degree. Avery left his mark everywhere he went, especially in Henderson. He was a top student at Vanderburg Elementary and Bob Miller Middle School, where he also played the cello as a member of the orchestra. Avery attended Foothill High School, where he developed into a three-sport scholar-athlete and earned the prestigious White Letter. He attended UNLV on academic scholarship, and worked at the campus recreation center pool and gym as a lifeguard and personal trainer. He leaves behind his father Reginald Avery, mother Maryann, and brothers Amani and Aden, Grandpa Fred, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins from California, Nevada and Georgia. Known for his warm personality, infectious smile and sense of humor, he was a colleague to many, and good friend to many more in the Southern Nevada community. Donations will be used to fund the creation of the Avery Burton "Excellence in Academics and Sports Scholarship." To honor his legacy, the fund will be coordinated and administered by the Public Education Foundation.
