

Bernice Reiter, 83, passed away September 12, 2019 in the company of her husband of 55 years, Maurice, and her sons Jerry, Fred and Robert Reiter. She was born in Buffalo, New York on December 14, 1935. Her parents Helen and Karl Hartenstein cared and provided her home for her earlier years of life. Bernice’s teen years were spent with the Catholic Sisters of Charity in Buffalo, NY at a home for teen girls. She said the Sisters of Charity nuns were wonderful to her.
Bernice went to both public and private Catholic high school, Arden Academy. She was also a graduate of St. Mary’s Business School. Her working career was mainly in accounting at Sister’s Emergency Hospital in Buffalo, NY; American Potash and Chemical Company, Pepperdine University. Bernice was also in personnel and human resources department interviewing and testing applicants for employment at major insurance companies. After the birth of her first child, she decided it was more important to stay home and take care of her family. Her husband, Maury, was elated with her decision.
Bernice is preceded in death by her sister, Rose Marie Harding, brothers, Roy Hartenstein, Bill Hartenstein, Bob Bond, Chuck Hart and Clarence Hartenstein. Bernice was also preceded in death by her sisters in law, Minica Bond, Freda (Dee) VanPelt, Pat McAlony and Betty Reiter.
Bernice loved all of her family and had many nieces, nephews and friends, many of which were lifetime ones. One of her greatest pleasures was visiting her daughter in law Viki Reiter and sisters in law, Betty Reiter, Judy Skhal and Mary Ann Hartenstein, and brothers in law Richard Skhal and Wesley Reiter was always a joyous occasion.
Bernice was always a very happy, kind, loving, caring and thoughtful person with the most beautiful blue eyes and smile. She has a kind word for everyone she met. Some of her favorite things to do were visiting family and friends, playing bingo, and dining out. She also enjoyed listening and playing music on her accordion, which she learned to play at 7 years old. Among her many favorites, she also looked forward to playing cards, nickel slots, traveling, reading true crime books and walking almost every day she was home.
She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
Bernice’s viewing will be held at Palm Mortuary and Cemetery at 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015 on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Catholic services will be held at Palm Boulder Highway 800 S Boulder Highway Henderson, NV 89015 at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Highway at 1900 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
