Beverley Alison Cecile Findlay-Lacy (née Gordon) was born in Savanna la Mar, Jamaica on December 22, 1944 to Julius Newton and Violet Eulalee Gordon. She was the second of two children and is survived by Mrs. Glynne Gordon-Carter of Milton Keynes, UK. Beverley attended St. Andrew High School for Girls and later the University of the West Indies Jamaica, where she met and wed Osborne Nurse in 1965. She accompanied him to Cornell University and gave had her first daughter Renee in 1968. Upon returning to Jamaica to look after her terminally ill mother, she had her first son, Stephen in 1971. Following her divorce, and subsequent remarriage to Tyrone Findlay she had three more children- Simone (b. 1977, d. 2010) Ryan (b. 1979) and Rishardé (b. 1981).
Beverley was trained as a secretary and was a disciplined, ambitious, determined and an exceptionally hard worker and natural entrepreneur. She used her wits, natural business instincts, exceptional communication, optimism, keen eye for quality and sheer bravery to build a bridge to dreams that often, only she could see... This allowed her to have two successful businesses- First Findlay’s Family Fashions- a boutique in Trinidad selling ladies clothing sourced from Los Angeles, Miami and New York and later as a successful real estate agent in Los Angeles and Las Vegas with her late husband Harold Lacy (d. 2007).
Beverley Alison Cecile Gordon-Nurse-Findlay-Lacy was a one of a kind not soon to be seen again. She was a beacon of light and hope to everyone, and never afraid to lead from the front. She was incredibly (sometimes foolishly! 😊) brave, outrageously bold, always fashionable, supremely confident, immovably principled and taught all her children to be intimidated by precisely nothing and no-one- Ever.
She suffered fools poorly and had zero time for mediocrity. However, she never let her razor sharp intelligence and steely determination ever get in the way of her infectious smile, consistent optimism, warm generosity or her sincere enjoyment of her granddaughters Christina, Maya, Zoe’riah and Legacy; grandsons John-Mark II, Royce and Pharrow; her great-granddaughter Luna, great-grandsons Kye and John Mark III and a host of other friends, parishioners and business partners.
She will truly, truly, truly be missed.
