Carla Elizabeth Garrett

Carla Elizabeth Garrett, our beautiful angel, returned to the arms of our Lord December 21, 2016 at the age of 55. She was born November 4, 1961 in Farmington, New Mexico to Norman and Alice Velasquez. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1962. She graduated from Las Vegas High School, where she was involved with many school activities. Her favorite was being a soccer bunny for the school's soccer team with her best friend. She was married to Martin Gieske from 1981-1987, and they had a beautiful daughter, Rachel. On March 2, 1991, Carla married Allen Garrett and was again blessed with a precious daughter Crystal. She also became mom to Allen's two sons Brad and Brian. Carla had a diverse and varied career life including working as a seamstress for the Stardust Hotel's Lido show, helping run and manage four family businesses, and also worked for Clark County's Division of Consumer Affairs. Carla then worked for the Clark County School District. She worked in food service, and for the school police, but found her home working as a library aid at various elementary schools. She loved helping the students explore life through reading. Carla loved life and took great pleasure in the simple things. She loved animals, especially her two dogs. She also enjoyed the beauty of nature when out hiking and fishing with the family. She loved her children and 8 grandchildren: Evan, Olivia, Devin, Nico, Dax, Leyla, Tristan, and Zaidan. She was loved by all who came in contact with her loving, giving, bubbly and stubborn nature. Carla was preceded in death by her sister Audrey, and first husband Martin. Carla is survived by her parents Norman and Alice, husband Allen, Daughters Rachel (Danny) and Crystal, and sons Brad (Ana) and Brian (Char). Closed casket visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The service will be on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00am. Both visitation and services will be held at the Palm Mortuary located at 800 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson.
