Charles “Chuck” R. Schwarz, Jr. of Henderson, Nevada passed away peacefully with his wife and children surrounding him at home on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Florence (De Stefano) and Charles Schwarz, Sr. and was the eldest of nine children; being followed by eight sisters who adored their big brother. He started working as a very young man and left school to work for a builder’s supply where he developed a love of building. His other love was of automobiles, and this naturally took him to being a car salesman at Roy O’Brien’s dealership in the Detroit area. He later became a builder and built several beautiful homes in the Mt. Clemens area. Life later took him to Florida, Arizona, California, and Nevada while working in several entrepreneurial ventures.
Chuck was his own man and one of the most important lessons he taught his children was to never give up and keep fighting to try to achieve those things you want in life. He took great pride in his family and was a strict disciplinarian while raising them. However, his love for his children was unconditional and this extended to his daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Underneath his rough exterior, was a heart of gold.
Throughout his life he was also obsessed with classic cars and over the years owned and enjoyed several of them. During his later years he loved watching classic car shows and auctions as well as any type of Western film. He loved a good Euchre game, golf, a road-trip, or piloting boats on the lakes of Michigan or the warm waters of Florida. His family was always wary about getting in the car to go on a little trip as he so enjoyed driving and seeing the countryside – a one-hour trip could turn into a state-wide ten-hour excursion or more. He had great dance moves and was a wonderful dance partner – of course, in true Chuck style, always taking the lead.
He married the love of his life, Joanne (Sylvester) in 1955 and they remained together until his death. Joanne met Chuck when she was interested in a friend of his who had asked her out. Chuck was the only person who had a vehicle, and he became smitten with her instantly and pursued her relentlessly until she agreed to date him. He was known to do some outrageous stunts, even going as far as to have friends wrap himself up in a box and deliver him to Joanne’s home with instructions that she was not to open until notified. As for most of us, life together was not always easy, but the love and commitment never ceased.
Joanne and Chuck had five children: Charles III (Renee), Thomas (Lenore), Janine Long (Edward), Darlene, and James (Stacy). He and Joanne welcomed daughters-in-law and a son-in-law to their family with open arms and loving hearts. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of his life, and he leaves behind granddaughter’s: Nicole, Christina, Jacqueline, Julianne, Kathleen; grandson’s: James, Nicholas, and Edward; and eleven great-grandchildren are also his legacy: Allison, Jasmine, Lillian, Connor, Liam, Jason, Paxton, Makhenzie, Lila, Vivienne, and Cecile.
A memorial mass has been scheduled for Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Viator’s Church in Las Vegas. Private interment will be held at another time.
