Dick Leo Steenhoek, age 79, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022. He was born March 26, 1942 at Skiff Hospital in Newton, Iowa to Henry and Vera Pauline (Berkenbosch) Steenhoek. He was the youngest of nine children.
Dick grew up in Monroe, Iowa and graduated from Monroe High School in 1960. During his years in high school he met the love of his life, Judy Ann Wilcutt. That fall, after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and made it a career, serving his country for 20 years. Dick was stationed all over the world including a tour in Vietnam. During his spare time he earned a college degree and worked many part time jobs.
Dick was married to Judy Anne Wilcutt on July 2, 1963 at the First Methodist Church in Knoxville, Iowa. They had two equally high-spirited boys who were honored to bear his name and passion for life. They all experienced the military life with Dick's many stateside and overseas assignments.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Dick was employed by a defense contractor, Ford Aerospace, as liaison between the company and the military at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked for a number of defense contractor firms for 25 years. Dick and Judy made Las Vegas (1980) and then Henderson (1987) as their home. He was an avid family man who loved to travel the world, camping, fishing, living in the sunshine and keeping up a beautiful lawn and sparkling swimming pool.
Dick was baptized in the Baptist Church of Monroe when he was 12 years old and attended Baptist churches all his life. Dick and Judy were very involved in the Green Valley Baptist Church in Henderson as greeters and he was also an usher.
Dick went to Heaven where he will join his parents; seven siblings: Beverly, Willadean, Paul, Wendel, Robert, Bill and Henry Jr. and many more family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy; sons: Brian (Lisa) and Mark; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren; brother, Ron (Linda), Betty Steenhoek and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
We know where he is now and he will be greatly missed. We are humbled by this day as Dick was"in life" one powerhouse of a man.
A memorial service for Dick will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Green Valley Baptist Church, 270 N Valle Verde Drive, Henderson, NV 89014.
