Donald Lee Griffie

Donald was born on March 12,1944 in Downy, California to Dorothy Lynn Billedeaux and Donald William Griffie. He had brothers Gary Lynn Griffie, Donald William Griffie Jr., David Griffie and a sister Donna Bleakley.

Donald went to Redondo Union High School, where he lettered in track and graduated in 1962. After graduating high school, he joined the Marines. Donald joined the Henderson Fire Department ironically on July 6, 1970. He worked his way thru the ranks to become a captain. Griffie was the first to arrive at the scene of the PEPCON fire and subsequent explosions. He was instrumental in helping to bring the first paramedics to the Henderson Fire Department and served as a past union president. He retired with 35 years of dedicated service. After retirement he founded D&R Hydrant and became a trusted resource for fire hydrant design, installation and repair across Southern Nevada.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Constance Griffie and is survived by his children Scott Griffie, Dinell Whittier, Vicky Dahlin, Donald A Griffie, Fred Griffie and he raised his granddaughter Samantha Kuntzman. he has numerous grandchildren and great grand children. Donald touched the lives of everyone he met, he was a great teacher, leader, father and friend. Our lives without him will never be the same.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary 800 S. Boulder Highway Henderson, NV 89015.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, July 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1002 Burkholder Avenue at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at Palm Henderson Cemetery.
