Douglas Ray Carter passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the age of 75. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Doug lived a life defined by faith, integrity, service, and an extraordinary love for people.
Doug was born on September 7, 1950, in St. George, Utah, to Ellis and Geraldine Carter. As a young teenager, he moved to Las Vegas, where he accepted responsibilities beyond his years. Working hard to help support his younger siblings, he developed the strong work ethic, quiet resilience, and selflessness that became the foundation of his life. He proudly served in the Army Reserves and spent his career as a cement truck driver, block wall and cement mason, school bus driver, and tour bus driver. Whatever the job, Doug gave it his very best—not for recognition, but because doing honest work and caring for others were simply part of who he was.
Driving wasn't simply what Doug did—it was part of who he was. Whether he was driving students to school, visitors on a tour, or family members on a road trip, he never met a stranger. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, included, and loved. Long before they reached their destination, they knew they mattered. He remained an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, and his quiet testimony of Jesus Christ shaped the way he lived each day, giving him a steadfast hope in the promise of eternal families.
Above all else, Doug treasured his family. He and his beloved wife, Jaynee Ottosen Carter, shared nearly 50 years of marriage, building a home filled with faith, love, laughter, and family. After beginning their life together in Las Vegas, they made their home in Henderson nearly 46 years ago, where they raised their family and created a lifetime of cherished memories. Although Doug passed away shortly before they could celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, the life they built together—and the family they cherished—stands as one of his greatest legacies.
If asked about his greatest accomplishment, Doug would never have pointed to his career. He would simply have said, "My family." Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Doug loved gathering everyone for a barbecue, especially if steak was on the menu, paging through car magazines, dreaming about owning a Ford Mustang, and ending his Marco Polo messages with his familiar sign-off: "Gotta go! Bye!" Those simple words will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
Doug was the kind of man whose character spoke louder than his words. Honest and dependable, he was a man of unwavering integrity who kept his promises and treated everyone with kindness and respect. He never sought recognition or praise; he simply looked for opportunities to serve. His gentle nature and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Geraldine (Billings) Carter, and his brothers Morris, Roland, and Michael Carter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jaynee Ottosen Carter; his children, Jennifer (Dennis) Estes, Adam (Kodi) Carter, Cathy (Jayson) Clark, Jared (Gabby) Carter, and Callie (Jonathan) Duck; 27 cherished grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers Burton, Greg, Neil, and Scott Carter; his sister, Rosemarie Montgomery; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 South Water Street, Henderson, Nevada 89015. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find peace in the faith that sustained him throughout his life. Doug's journey on earth has come to an end, but his example of quiet service, steadfast faith, and unconditional love will continue to guide all who were blessed to know him. We look forward with hope to the joyful day when we will be together again.
