She was born in Little Suamico, Wisconsin in 1917. One of ten children, she lost her mother when she was 5 years old and her father when she was 15.
Granddaughter of Irish and Scottish immigrants, her mother was a teacher and instilled in her children to have proper manners and be educated. She worked as a nanny in Marinette, Wisconsin to support herself while attending high school during the Great Depression. She later worked in Ganschow’s store in Bonduel, Wisconsin. She met her husband, Stanford Peterson in Landstad, Wisconsin when she was 21. He was a cheese maker and later a farmer and businessman in Thornton and Red River area. Edna was a homemaker and an active 4-H leader. She also took in and cared for 2 sons of a friend as foster children for several years.
She and Stanford were married February 15, 1939 and for 54 years until his death in 1993.
In 2006 she met a friend, WT Comer, whom she cared for and enjoyed life with for over 10 years until his passing in 2016.
Edna had five children, Patty, Wayne, Bonnie, Mark and Michelle.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Stanford, her daughters Patty and Bonnie and son, Wayne.
She is survived by her son Mark Peterson of Lake St. Louis, MO, and wife Bonnie, and her daughter Michelle Peterson, Waupaca, WI and husband David Dresia, and half-brother Calvin Allen, Abrams, WI.
She is also survived by her granddaughters, Christine Gospodarski, nee Peterson, Wildwood, MO, Ingrid Kopp, nee Peterson, St. Charles, MO, Erika Spencer, nee Tillman, Colorado Springs, CO and grandson Nohr Tillman, St. Clair Shores, MI, great grandchildren Erik Gospodarski, Renae Gospodarski, Jocelyn Spencer, Kiley Spencer and Leif Kopp.
She was born and lived in Wisconsin for much of her life, and moved to South Padre Island, Texas in retirement. After her husband’s death she moved to Henderson, Nevada to be close to her eldest son, Wayne. She lived in her own condo by herself until 3 weeks ago when she entered the hospital for pneumonia and fractured vertebra.
She celebrated her 101st birthday in St. Rose de Lima Hospital in Henderson with a large gathering of nurses, her doctor, family and her neighborhood friends. She was moved to a private hospice home on Sunday in a quite caring private residence environment with 24-hour care and personal attention.
Her passing this morning on November 8th , 2018 culminates a long life to be celebrated as the matriarch of the Peterson family.
