Edward "Ed" M. Hiramoto

Edward “Ed” M. Hiramoto, 80, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home in Henderson, Nevada, on July 13, 2026, after living with pulmonary fibrosis for eight years, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born on August 3, 1945, in Pepeekeo, Hawaii, to Matsukichi and Hisayo (Ono) Hiramoto. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. After returning home from military service, he met the love of his life, Jo Ann Weiland, while living in Hawaii. Using the GI Bill, Ed earned his bachelor’s degree and later completed his master’s degree.

Ed devoted 31 years to an overseas career as a contract educational Counselor for the United States Government. Together with Jo, he raised their two sons while living in Okinawa, Japan, and later Germany, giving them the unique opportunity to grow up immersed in different cultures and traditions. Living abroad fostered Ed’s love of travel and different cultures, and he found great joy in sharing those experiences with his family. Whether exploring a new country, discovering local customs, or simply spending time together, Ed believed travel broadened the mind and enriched the heart.

After retiring, Ed enjoyed working as an usher at MGM Resorts in Las Vegas, where he loved meeting people from all over the world and had the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of live performances and shows. It was the perfect role for someone who genuinely enjoyed people and new experiences.

Ed will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, wisdom, fiery spirit, unwavering integrity, and deep devotion to his family. He especially cherished hiking, traveling, creating lasting memories with those he loved, and, of course, following the stock market.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Jo Ann (Weiland) Hiramoto of Henderson, Nevada; his sons, Karl (Lola) Hiramoto of Spain and Keith (Suzanne) Hiramoto of Florida; his cherished grandchildren: Daniel, Carla, and Leo Hiramoto of Spain; his brother, Myron Hiramoto of Papaikou, Hawaii; his sisters: Leatrice Michimoto of Honolulu, Hawaii, Pearl (Wayne) Miharara of Delaware, and Kate (Chase) Masuda of Honolulu, Hawaii; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11:20 a.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Ed’s legacy of service, love, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
