Ernesto “Ernie” Cruz Dizon passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital – Siena Campus in Henderson, Nevada.
A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, dedicated professional, and vibrant spirit, Ernie lived life to the fullest. He brought warmth, laughter, kindness, and energy to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born and raised in Sta. Mesa, Philippines, Ernie was the cherished son of Liborio Dizon and Magdalena Dela Cruz. From an early age, he was known for his energy, determination, and outgoing personality. He delivered newspapers throughout his neighborhood on his bicycle, played on many basketball leagues, and was an active member of the local bowling club. Naturally charismatic and well-loved within his community, Ernie was frequently chosen as chairman for various fiesta celebrations. He was also an avid and enthusiastic dancer who loved entertaining others with his cha-cha, tango, and boogie.
With a strong desire to help his family in the Philippines and build a better future, Ernie initially dreamed of joining the military. His determination to better himself never wavered. He pursued higher education, studying accounting at the University of the East before transferring to Far Eastern University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Something he always said to his children was to finish your education because that is one thing absolutely no one can take from you.
Ernie's path eventually took him to Okinawa, Japan, where he worked as a waiter on base. Later, he secured contract work in Saipan, Mariana Islands, where he met the love of his life, Anita Giron. They were married on October 10, 1970, beginning a lifelong journey together. The couple eventually made their home in Guam, where Ernie established a fulfilling career in higher education. He worked as an accountant at the University of Guam and later as a comptroller at Guam Community College. Throughout his career, Ernie was respected by colleagues and friends for being focused, logical, open-minded, and driven. A proud Mason, he took great pride in his work, brotherhood, and service, making lasting contributions to the institutions and communities he served.
Outside of his professional life, Ernie enjoyed a wide range of interests. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a competitive tennis player. He loved watching the NBA, WNBA, tennis, and football, and he enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for sports with family and friends. At home, he found joy in cooking Mongo, Sinigang, Nilaga, Menudo, and Pancit for his family. He enjoyed listening to and singing along to his favorite Frank Sinatra songs, and tinkering with lawn mowers and cars. Whether he was cooking a meal, fixing something around the house, enjoying a game, or simply spending time with loved ones, Ernie embraced life with enthusiasm.
In April 2004, following the birth of their second grandson, Ernie and Anita decided to make Las Vegas their permanent home. During his retirement years, Ernie remained active and engaged, attending the local senior center and exercising regularly with friends. He continued to enjoy the simple pleasures of companionship, activity, and spending time with those around him.
Above all else, Ernie’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones and took immense pride in being present for his grandchildren. He could often be found on the sidelines, enthusiastically cheering them on at their baseball, volleyball, flag football, and basketball games. He gladly handled school bus-stop drop-offs and pickups, never complaining and not wanting it any other way. For Ernie, being there for his family was never an obligation—it was a privilege and one of the greatest joys of his life.
Ernie will be lovingly remembered for his generous heart, infectious energy, warm sense of humor, love of music, dedication to his family, and zest for life. He lived with purpose, loved wholeheartedly, and found his greatest fulfillment in the people he cared for. Though he is deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
May he rest peacefully, surrounded forever by the love he gave so freely to others.
Ernie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Dizon, and his brother, Carlos Dizon. He is survived by his loving siblings: Felicitas Rosario, Corazon Monares, and Liborio Dizon Jr.; his children: Alvin Dizon and his wife, Michelle Obispo, and Michelle Sibal and her husband, Rolly; and his four cherished grandchildren: Jathan Kaleo, Kaiden Keone, Zaden Kekoa Sibal, and Sydney Aleia Dizon.
