Ester Velasco Del Rosario, age 101, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, June 20, 2025. She was born in Pangasinan, Luzon, Philippines, on October 22, 1923, the daughter of Mariano and Eufrecia Velasco. Ester was the second child among ten siblings. She grew up in Lingayen, Pangasinan, where she attended Pangasinan High School, and later moved to Manila to study at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Ester was married to Attorney Restituto del Rosario on April 23, 1955. The couple relocated to Detroit, Michigan, with the family, until settling in Las Vegas, where she remained the rest of her life.
Ester was truly a remarkable and exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: strength in spirit, unconditional love, and unending generosity that could be seen in her care of her family and friends. She was incredibly bright, and as a child growing up was always first in her classes. Ester was equally beautiful too as she was selected to be an assistant head nurse at a large, teaching, and the only communicable disease center in the Philippines, San Lazaro Hospital. She was given the award for the Best Philippine Government Employee in 1968, in recognition of all her vast contributions. Ester was a prolific writer and was the first Editor in Chief for the PNAM (Philippine Nurses Association of Michigan) Newsletter. She taught not only in the Philippines, but in Michigan as well.
Ester will be remembered by her family and friends as a beautiful, smart, loving, generous, and strong woman, who brought inspiration and joy to many lives. Her favorite quote coming from the Bible was, "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" and she definitely lived it. Her legacy will carry on forever, reminding all that knew her, that we choose to live a life of meaningful deeds of love and service and follow the teachings of our dear Lord.
Ester is survived by her children: Cynthia Emanuel (Carlos) Susan de Rosario, Alex del Rosario (Victoria), and Ryan del Rosario (Julie); six grandchildren: Lizelle (Randy), Kyle (Megan), Zachary, Rachel (Ryan), Amber, and Julia; three great grandchildren: Isabella, Alexander, and Noelle; and two of her siblings: Veirami Moegle (Eberhardt) and Mario Velasco.
A visitation for Ester will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM both at Palm Henderson Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Ester will be laid to rest in Palm Henderson Cemetery in Henderson, Nevada.
