Ethel B Callahan

Ethel Bleak Callahan, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by loving family.

Ethel was born on April 3, 1929, in St. George, Utah, the sixth of seven children to Harry Young Bleak and Ivy May Lund Bleak. She grew up in St. George and loved to read and play sports, especially tennis. Always a hard worker, beginning around the age of 5, she would push the neighborhood babies around in their strollers for a penny. Some other jobs she held in those early years were at a swimming pool and a movie theater.

Ethel met the love of her life, George “Ray” Callahan, at Peach Days in Hurricane, Utah, at the age of 15 and told her girlfriend that she was going to marry that man someday! That someday was on July 13, 1946, in St. George, Utah. Ray and Ethel were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple on January 19, 1963. She lived in her Henderson, Nevada home for 78 years, which she called her castle!

Her faith was a central part of her life, and she spent many years serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years, she held many callings, including serving as Relief Society president, Primary president, and as a Primary teacher for the older boys. She especially loved her time volunteering at the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, where she found great joy in helping and serving others for more than 17 years.

Her family was a constant source of love, pride, and happiness throughout her life. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and took great pride in watching her family grow through the generations. Her home was truly her castle, but it was the family and memories that filled it that made it special. She loved her family deeply and treasured the time she was able to spend with them.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Judy Lynn Bundy; her grandchildren: James Bundy, Teresa (James) Dodge, Shanna (Les) Roads, Marsha (Jason) Culley, Robert (Brooke) Bundy, Sherrie (Jaime) Jackson, Melinda (Travis) Udy, Michael (Colleen) Carter II, and Dennis (Alison) Carter; as well as her 61 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Young Bleak and Ivy May Lund Bleak; her husband, Ray Callahan; her daughter, Cindy Rae Carter; her sons-in-law: James LaVoy Bundy and Michael Dennis Carter; her granddaughter, Tifanie Kerrigan; and her six siblings: Mary (Bleak) Eberhardt, Rex Harry Bleak, Linna (Bleak) White, Klea (Bleak) Kaneen, Peggy Ivy Mae Bleak, and Geraldine (Bleak) Foster.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:00 am. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 am, both at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1551 W Galleria Dr, Henderson, NV 89014.
