Evanell Sarah Janousek

Evanell Sarah Kuglar Janousek passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026 in Henderson, Nevada. Evanell was born November 7, 1930 to Lawrence and Dorothy (Zurn) Kugler in Underwood, Minnesota. On April 8, 1953, Evanell married Raymond Janousek and moved to Rapid City, South Dakota.

In the 1960’s she began oil painting and sculpting. She was especially proud of her smaller sculptures (called Uniques) and their inspirational accompanying poems. The opening for the Uniques was held at the Rapid City Civic Art Gallery and “Uniques by Evanell, Original Miniature Sculptures with Inspirational Poems” was later published. Her faith and love of God were ever present and guiding light through the years.

She contributed to the community as a Girl Scout leader, room mother, and was involved in Jaceettes, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Knights Ladies, Purple Hats and Dakota Artists Guild. For three years, she wrote “Life After 65” columns in the Rapid City Journal.

Evanell loved dancing with her husband, Raymond, well into their sixties and enjoyed October Fests with friends. They were especially proud of dancing in The Nutcracker production with their daughter, Karen, and granddaughter, Lindsey – three generations.

Evanell and Raymond were married seventy-two years.

Evanell is survived by daughters Teri (Randy) Hammerquist, Billings, Montana, Karen (Steve) Waltman, Henderson, Nevada, and son James (Cathy) Janousek, Libertyville, Illinois.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Brad (Erika) Hammerquist, Bryan (Erin) Hammerquist, Lindsey (Ryan) LaBarge, Ashley Waltman, Sarah (Matt) Miotti, Jeff (Haley) Janousek, Laura (Alex) Janousek Blacketor, and great-grandchildren Linnea, Evanelle, Maisy, Sawyer,

Cassidy, Arlo and Miley. Evanell was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, parents, three sisters and one brother.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Henderson, Nevada,on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nevada.
