Fernando P. Baquiran, 94, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on May 17, 2026 was born in Cavite City, Philippines, and is remembered with deep respect and gratitude for a life marked by devotion, compassion, and quiet strength. Beloved by those who knew him, he carried himself with a steady generosity of spirit—offering warmth, care, and support in ways that asked for little in return. Even in serious moments, his sense of humor could bring ease and light, a gentle reminder to hold close to what matters most.
Raised in the Philippines until the age of 16, Fernando later migrated to the United States, embracing change with courage and curiosity. He attended high school in California and graduated from Mountain High School, continuing forward with the kind of determination that would shape the years ahead.
Upon graduation, Fernando enlisted in the US Army, where he served honorably for over 20 years. He served both in Korea and in Vietnam. He retired from the US Army, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded two Presidential Unit Citations (one Navy and one Korea), Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), four overseas bars, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal: serving in the Vietnam Counter-Offensive Campaign, Phase II and Phase III. His commitment reflected a selfless dedication to others and to duty—an enduring example of what it means to give of oneself with purpose and integrity.
Following his service, Fernando came home and went to work for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
On August 23, 1980, Fernando was married at a chapel wedding in Reno, Nevada. He was a devoted husband and father, and his love for family was steadfast. He is survived by his wife, Devine, and his son, Bee Fernan Baquiran. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Garnett; his sisters, Rafaela, Amparo, and Anita; and his brother, Rogelio.
Fernando found joy in the simple, meaningful pleasures of life—time spent fishing, biking on trails, ballroom dancing, and bowling. In these moments, his adventurous spirit showed itself not as spectacle, but as a sincere appreciation for movement, companionship, and the everyday gifts of time well lived.
Fernando P. Baquiran will be remembered with enduring respect and affection, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:30 am at Palm Henderson Mortuary. Following his service, Fernando will be laid to rest with full military honors in Palm Henderson Cemetery, both located at 800 S Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
