

James Byron Hunsucker, 67, of Henderson passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015. He was born September 9, 1947 to Albert and Dawn Hunsucker. James was preceded in death by his parents as well as two of his children, James Albert and Michel Hunsucker. He is survived by his sons, Gregory and Wesley Hunsucker both of Blanchard, Idaho, sisters Sharol Linton of Henderson, Nevada and Rebecca Houston of Elsberry, Missouri as well as numerous nieces and nephews. James had a deep love of our county and wanted to fight for our freedom and protect our rights. James enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1965 and went on active duty in 1966. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise from March 1967 to August 1969. Then he served as a Gunner’s Mate with River Patrol Flotilla Five in South Vietnam from August 1969 until he was captured and taken as a Prisoner of War in Cambodia on February 5, 1970. He was released on February 28, 1970 and then served with River Division 592 in South Vietnam from March to July 1970. He then served with Naval Support Activity Saigon, South Vietnam from July 1970 until he returned home and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1971. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War.
