Jay D Holcomb Sr., of Pioche, NV was born August 10, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Sidney H. Holcomb and Frances J. (Phillips) Holcomb. Jay grew up in Waterloo, Iowa graduating in 1970 from Orange High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1971 serving on the USS Sea Devil submarine out of Norfolk, VA. Jay served in the Navy for nearly 4 years before discharging to study at the University of Indiana and Hawkeye Tech.
He married Ann (Trovillion) Madasz in 1978. Jay & Ann had three children: Cheyenne Pasquale (Jerry), Katie Holcomb , and Jay D. Holcomb jr. all of Las Vegas, NV. Jay & Annie lived in Boise, ID, later moving to Phoenix, Arizona where they later divorced. In Phoenix, he began work in the resort / hotel industry. He later moved to Las Vegas, NV and worked as a banquet captain for the Rio in Las Vegas prior to retiring to Pioche, NV.
While Jay was a private and non-intrusive person, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching football, photography, and following wrestling news from Iowa. He lived his life by his rules and was truly the “good guy”, a man who was all heart. He was loved by all who knew him.
Jay passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Las Vegas, NV on December 28, 2018 at the age of 66 with complications following heart surgery.
He is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, his Mother Frances Wiesner of West Des Moines, IA, his sister, Pam Wolf (Kenny) of Windsor Heights, IA and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. Jay was especially close to his nephew, Nathan Stoffregen of Las Vegas.
His father, Sid of Waterloo, IA died in 1995 at age 66 with heart issues. His sister Karen Dorius of Roseburg, Oregon died in 2005 with breast cancer.
A marker in Jay's honor will be placed in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada. His family will host a Celebration of Life in his honor on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
