Joanne Woods Whisler

Joanne Woods Jones Whisler, 79, entered into the arms of the Lord Feb. 11, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who passed peacefully at Mountain View Hospital after a courageous battle with pneumonia. Joanne was born Jan. 9, 1933 to Jack and Annie Julia Adair Jones in Crutcho Township, Oklahoma City. At a young age, Joanne went to live with her maternal grandmother, Marsha Compton, and stepfather on the farm after the passing of her mother, Julia. She would eventually move to Las Vegas, where she resided for 61 years. When her children became of high school age, Joanne went to work for Johnson Sales Co. of 3 M, then Jerry Henderson of Alexander Dawson Inc., and later worked as office manager for Barker Gillock & Perry. She eventually quit work to care for her sick daughter, Paula.

Joanne was preceded in death by her only daughter, Paula Joann Whisler. She is survived by her husband, of 59 years, Paul; her sons, Edgar and David; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Joanne enjoyed the outdoors, caring for the roses and flowers in her garden, and constantly laying pavers here and there throughout the yard, and truly loved watching the hummingbirds build their nests in the backyard tree. To honor her request, Joanne will be cremated and her ashes buried with her grandmother, Marsha.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Joanne's family would like to sincerely thank all the staff and volunteers of Mountain View Hospital and Nathan Adelson Hospice for their excellent personal care. Your tireless efforts bring more peace and comfort than you will ever know.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joanne's name to Nathan Addison Hospice, 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
