John Gerald Painter, 81, passed away on November 3, 2021 in Boulder City, Nevada. John was born on January 12, 1940 in Helper, Utah and grew up in Nephi, Utah. After high school, he joined the Navy and shortly before his first deployment he married the love of his life, Darla Steele of Santaquin, Utah on September 4, 1958. They enjoyed 61 years together, raising six children who went on to bless them with 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. When Darla went home to be with our Heavenly Father in June of 2020, John devoted himself to the journey of being sealed to her for time and all eternity. On August 28, 2021, that sacred goal was accomplished in the Payson, Utah LDS temple.
John enjoyed a distinguished career with the U.S. federal civil service and after 25 years and numerous awards, certifications, and commendations, he retired as a GS-13 in the mid-1990s. He continued to stay active throughout his life with his love of the outdoors and his various hobbies.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Darla Painter; son Gary D. Painter; granddaughter Krista Ann Painter; mother Sarah Bernice Painter (Bean); father Lewis LaFon Painter; and brother Louis Augustine (Donna). He is survived by his brother Richard Painter; sister Wanda Augustine (Nancy); sister Sandina Martin (Danny), daughter Terri Tidwell; son Kraig Painter (Lisa); son Kurt Painter (Tami); son Brett Painter (Veronica); son Joel Painter; and a large circle of family and friends for whom he cared very much.
A memorial service will be held in Santaquin, Utah at a later date which will be announced. As John's family, we would also like to express our gratitude for the comfort, support, and prayers that were offered, especially as his time with us drew to a close. Thank you.
