

Luzviminda Orpilla Thomas was known as many things to many people. She went by "Luz" for short, which translates to the word "light" in English. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Luz will be remembered as a very exceptional nurse, wife, mother, and beautiful person.
She was the daughter of Dionisio Garcia Guico and Placida Tangalin Orpilla & had 1 brother and 3 sisters.
A devout Catholic since childhood, she graduated from Holy Rosary Academy, run by Franciscan sisters, in 1970. Luz enjoyed her college years and graduated from Luzon College in Dagupan, Philippines. After graduating, she proceeded to complete her childhood dream, becoming a registered nurse (RN).
As a registered nurse, she worked in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, where she made lifelong friends from around the world. There in Riyadh, she also met her husband, Edwin Thomas. Luz overcame many odds to be the amazing mother she was and was blessed with one child, Courtney "CoCo Jenkins" Thomas.
Luz loved to dance and was the light of any party she attended. She was very into fashion and loved to dress well. Some other activities she enjoyed were watching sports, especially when The Steelers were on, and watching home improvement shows.
Luz passed away on June 19, 2021 at home with her husband and daughter in Henderson, NV. She fought a brave battle against cancer and even waited for her daughter to return home from travel before passing. She is survived by her husband Edwin and her daughter CoCo.
Simply stated, Luz was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Luz leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Luzviminda Orpilla Thomas.
