Marilyn Y. Ankenman, 81, of Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019. She was born June 9, 1937 to Phyllis and Floyd Gendre in Onaga, Kansas. Marilyn was a retired Food Service Manager and worked at several nursing homes in Las Vegas, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Marilyn lived in many places as a military wife and lived most recently in Los Lunas, New Mexico and returned to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2018. Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her many patients, after school children at her church, and most of all her family. Marilyn was a former member of Eastern Star, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed attending and volunteering at the First Presbyterian Church in Belen, New Mexico. She enjoyed spending her days with crosswords, embroidery, and her beloved cat, Shadow.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; and three grandsons: Kevin and Ray Stanish, and Michael O'Carroll. She is survived by her four children: Bart (Brenda) Ankenman, Bruce (Sue) Ankenman, Janell Crawford, and Stacie (Greg) Lenners; sister, Sondra (Virgil) Wade; cousin, Gwen (Harold) Bohm; niece, Jennifer (John) Lerch; and nephew, Michael (Demi) Wade; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; three great nephews; one great niece; and numerous cousins and friends.
Marilyn always referred to her children and grandchildren as her “Nest” and will be greatly missed by them all. Rest in Heaven our sweet Mother and Nana.
A celebration of life for Marilyn will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd. Las Vegas, Nevada 89134. Marilyn will be laid to rest privately with her family at Palm Henderson Cemetery 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
If sending flowers, please have them delivered on the Friday before the service, or on Sunday the day of the service; there will not be anyone at the church on Saturday to accept deliveries.
