Henderson, Nevada at age 90. He was born in Cuba on April 27, 1927 and grew up in Majagua, Cuba with his father, Roque de la Torre; mother, Maria Rodriguez; along with his 5 brothers: Ramon, Miguel
Angel, Wilfredo, Roquito, and Rafael; and his 5 sisters: Herminia, Carmen, “Beba”( Irma), Magdalena and
Esther.
Mario, a small business owner, fled communist Cuba with his family in 1968 in order to provide them
with a better life and opportunities. He had a long career as a blackjack and roulette dealer in Las Vegas,
Nevada. He settled with his family in Southern Nevada since 1970. He was a parishioner of Holy Family
Catholic Church in Las Vegas and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Henderson, Nevada.
Playing dominoes and watching boxing and baseball were among his favorite pastimes, but he mostly
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Despite being a quiet man, his words were always wise
and his smile gleamed with happiness when he was with his grandchildren. Everything he ever did was
for his family, as he was an extraordinarily selfless man.
Mario is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maria Josefa; son, Mario; son, Gilberto and his wife Mayda; daughter, Maria del Carmen Stockbridge and her husband, Craig; daughter-in-law, Silvia; 5 grandchildren: Mario de Jesus, Erika, Jennifer, Garrett, and Paul; along with great grandchildren, Bianca, Brandon, and
Nicholas.
