Martie was born August 20, 1944, in Henderson, NV. Her parents were Martha Williams and James
Williams; she was the baby of 8 kids, Margie, Don, Marilyn, Russell, Kaye, Ruth and Nyla. They were a blended family that became a united family with love and respect for all. Martie went to school in Henderson, for Elementary and Jr. High she was on Water St. in the K -8th school there and Basic High School in the building that is now Burkholder Jr. High. In high school she was an excellent typist, excelled in secretarial skills, but struggled with math and science.
Martie met Carl when they were young and their mothers were friends. Carl Robert Henderson and
Martha Ann Henderson got married November 12, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Henderson, Nevada. They had a love for the ages, they loved each other, the Lord, and all those around them. They wanted a large family with lots of kids to fill their home, but God had other plans.
In 1970, after 5 years of trying, Carl and Martie had a beautiful baby girl; they named her Eliz Henderson after Carl’s mother. Six months later, she was taken to heaven to be one of our guardians angels. 3 years later, they had Wanetta Kaye Henderson; named after Carl’s dad’s Mother, his sister, and Martie’s sister. Wanetta was their only child who they treasured and loved. Being the loving people they were they spread that love to family and friends. Once you entered their life you were adopted into the family forever.
Martie was also a devoted grandmother to Alexander Oneal Eckles, a devoted aunt to all her many nieces and nephews; and sister, to her siblings. Martie was a pre-k sunday school teacher, a youth leader and choir member at multiple churches. She loved spreading God’s word to everyone she met; the Lord was a true focus of her life.
Martie worked as a data entry clerk and worked on the first mainframe computers with punch cards all
the way to the computers we use today. She could type 10,000 to 12,000 keystrokes an hour on a computer keyboard, the normal keystrokes an hour is 3,000 - 5,000. She was a well organized, helpful, and thoughtful worker, who would start a job as a temp and end up staying for years no one wanted her to leave.
Martie loved word games like scrabble, boggle, solitaire, hidden item games and casino games. She
loved watching disney movies, game shows, playing board games, puzzles and card games.
Martie was preceded to heaven by both parents, her husband, Carl Henderson; daughter, Eliz Henderson, brother, Don; sister, Kaye, and both in-laws. Heaven was celebrating when she arrived home.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanetta Henderson-Eckles and her husband, Darrell; grandson, Alexander; sisters: Marilyn, Nyla, Ruth, and Margie; brother, Russell; brother-in-laws: Jay and John Henderson and his wife, Sylvia; and extended family.
Her favorite scripture: 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. Martie’s focus in life was always God, Family & Unconditional Love - forever and ever.
