Mary Albert was born on April 29, 1940 in Tallulah, Louisiana to her parents Annie Mae Gooden and King Albert. She graduated from Thomastown High School. In 1963, she relocated to Henderson, Nevada where she worked at St. Rose de Lima Hospital as a dietician. Her passions for helping others lead her to a career as a freelance professional caretaker. After many years of employment as a freelance professional caretaker, Mary decided to retire. However, her selflessness and passion for helping others would not let her bask in the retired life for long. Instead, it directed her to many years of obtaining food donations from various stores, churches and even having personal garage sales so she could cook and serve the homeless population in Las Vegas weekly. Mary cared about people in the purest way. Unbeknownst to her, this benevolent act gained her recognition in the Las Vegas Review Journal and in the homeless community where she was bestowed the name of “an angel disguised as the Chicken Lady”.
Since accepting Christ at an early age, her spiritual outlook on life and faith in God has been the driving force behind all of her endeavors. She led by example. Until her health condition made it impossible, Mary was active in the life of the Church at Community Baptist, working with many ministry efforts including being an original member of the Combach choir and teaching Sunday school.
Mary had a smile that could light up your soul. She left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be remembered for being a wonderfully devoted mom, humanitarian, and loyal to her family, friends and faith.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Gooden Willis; father, King Albert; and sisters: Betty Mae Gooden Brown and Frankie Mae Gooden Norman. She is survived in legacy by her six children: Cassandra Albert-Ennis and her husband, Curtis, of Henderson, Nevada; Frederick Albert of Henderson, Nevada; Rosemary McDaniel of Henderson, Nevada; Johnnie Albert of Henderson, Nevada; Donna Albert of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Wanda Albert of Henderson, Nevada; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends worldwide.
