

Norma Louise Darby, age 81, a 70 year resident of Henderson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 3, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born March 23, 1937 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Mary Esther Robinson Killebrew and William Henry Killebrew. Norma was raised with her 4 sisters: Mary, Elizabeth, Una, and Erma, as well as her 4 brothers: Joe, Bob, Paul, and John. The family moved from Oklahoma to Henderson NV when Norma was in 6th grade.
Being raised with many brothers made Norma very athletic and somewhat of a tom boy who liked to climb trees. She lettered in Girl's Athletic Association - mastered typing, shorthand and secretarial skills. She truly enjoyed her quiet side as well filled with novels, historical fiction, quaint beach towns and family.
Norma graduated from Basic High School in 1955. She would go on to Clark County Community College to earn an Associates Degree in Banking and Finance. Norma would go on to become a bank secretary and then Bank Officer at Bank of Nevada/First Interstate Bank for 25 years.
Not long after high school, Norma met Samuel Marion Darby, the man who would become the love of her life, and they were married at a Civil Wedding June 9, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Samuel and Norma were blessed with a daughter Mary Shannon Darby. Norma was a devoted mother to Mary Shannon throughout her life. She was not only a loving mother, but a mentor, spiritual guide, financial adviser, medical/physical advisor, but even more so - a best friend. She provided Mary Shannon with the companionship and confidence that enabled her to experience some of life's great marvels such as: traveling, crafting, and enjoying performing arts.
Travel was a big part of Norma's life, she was blessed to have been able to vacation in Europe - taking in the sites in Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, and Spain; she also enjoyed places closer to home like: Alaska, California Beaches, New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Norma loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her girlfriends Peggy Luks, Dorothy Coroneous, Jan Lee Barker, and Sarah Bates, and her church family at Victory Road Church of Christ in Henderson where she taught Sunday school.
Norma was an amazing wife, mother, sister, and friend; whom was 100% devoted to her family and her church, and will truly be missed.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Sam M. Darby; father, William Henry Killebrew; mother, Mary Esther Robinson Killebrew; sisters, Mary Neuton and Elizabeth Rudisill; and brothers, Joe Killebrew and Bob Killebrew.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Mary Shannon Darby; sisters, Erma & her husband Ronald Tackett, and Una Everitt; and brothers, John and his wife Lorna Killebrew, and Paul Killebrew.
A visitation for Norma will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Norma will be laid to rest at Palm Henderson Cemetery.
