Norma Joy (Edenborough) Notley, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Henderson, Nevada, at the age of 94. Born on August 24, 1930, in La Habra, California, Norma spent her early years in Coalinga, CA, where her father worked for Chevron and her mother was a devoted homemaker.
A bright and ambitious young woman, Norma met the love of her life, Roy Notley, in high school—she was the editor of the school newspaper, and he, the star quarterback. Their lifelong romance was rooted in shared dreams and steadfast support. Norma went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno, funding her studies in part with her talent as an accomplished trumpet player in a jazz band.
After graduation, Norma married Roy, who had completed flight school as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. Their life together was a rich adventure, moving between Strategic Air Command bases across the country, where Norma taught physical education at various high schools.
Following Roy’s retirement from the military in 1972, the couple embraced a new chapter—designing and building homes in California, Arizona, and Utah, and traveling the western states in their motorhome. Norma developed a passion for golf and remained an avid player well into her nineties, always looking forward to her weekly rounds with the Tuesday golf gals at Desert Willow Golf Course.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Roy Notley (USAF), her parents, Spencer and Beulah Edenborough, and her sister, Dr. Lucy Lou Mathis. She is survived by her devoted children: Randy Notley (Debbie), Nancy Eglinton (Dave), and Bob Notley (Cindy), along with grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Alison Berry, Jennifer Griffin, Kim Dearman, and Michael Notley; step grandchildren Andrea Brazil, Justin Davies, Levi Davies, Eryn Scherer, David Eglinton, Daniel Putrino, and many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held on July 12th at 10:30am PDT at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, Nevada 89074.
Norma’s final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Roy—a testament to their shared journey of love, service, and enduring legacy.
In memory of Norma, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society at http://donate.cancer.org.
