Richard Michael Hoaglin passed away on August 24, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born to Richard W. Hoaglin and Carolyn J. Hoaglin in Chicago, Illinois, on November 16, 1940.
Mike was raised and educated in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. He graduated from River Local High School in Hannibal, Ohio, in May 1958.
In 1961, Mike entered the I.B.E.W. Electrical Apprenticeship Program in Niagara Falls, New York. When work slowed, he and five others were transferred to Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Wireman in 1963. After more than 40 years in the electrical trade, Mike retired in 2005.
Mike married in 1962 and had three children: daughters Michelle and Robin, and son Randy. The family moved to Arizona in 1969 and later to Henderson, Nevada, in 1984.
Mike's Masonic career began at Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 39. He was initiated on February 13, 1991, passed on March 27, 1991, and raised on April 24, 1991. Mike served as Master of Mt. Moriah Lodge in 1997 and 2009. He affiliated with Vegas Lodge No. 32 in 2004 and served as its Master in 2011.
Mike was a Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Las Vegas. In 1999, he was elevated to the rank of Knight Commander of the Court of Honour (KCCH). In 2007, he was among twelve Scottish Rite Masons from Nevada who had the honor of being coroneted a 33rd Degree Mason during the only joint session of the Northern and Southern Jurisdictions of the Scottish Rite.
As a member of the York Rite Bodies in Boulder City, Nevada, Mike served as the head of all three bodies, resulting in his induction into Nevada Priory No. 50 as a Knight of the York Cross of Honour (KYCH).
In 1998, population growth created the need for a second Commandery. Ten members of the York Rite Bodies in Boulder City petitioned the Grand Commandery of Nevada to establish a new Commandery. Melita Commandery was chartered in 1999, and Mike was one of its ten charter members.
Mike served in all three Grand York Rite Bodies as Grand Scribe in the Grand Chapter, Grand Conductor of the Council in the Grand Council, and Grand Junior Warden in the Grand Commandery. When the need arose for an additional Priory in Nevada, Las Vegas was selected, and Purple Sage Priory No. 86 received its charter in 2007. Mike was one of its original charter members.
Mike was a Past Patron of Sunrise Chapter No. 28, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Monarch of Charman Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R.; and a member of the Knight Masons, the Royal Order of Scotland, and Zelzah Shrine in Las Vegas.
In 2001, Mike married Jean Kerrigan. Together, they shared a blended family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Michelle Tinkham, Robin Zimmerman, and Randy Hoaglin; his sister, Sharon Harmon; and Jean's family, John and Susan Kerrigan and their daughters, Christine Hartman and Jennifer Emmel, and Kevin and Priscilla Kerrigan and their sons, Angelo Emmanuel and Michael Kerrigan.
Together, Mike and Jean's family includes five children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Mike will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Masonic Lodge #32, 630 East Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89104.
