Robert Leroy Whitaker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly at his home on August 11, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on March 1, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa, to Charles and Cora Whitaker, both of whom predeceased him.
Robert's life was a testament to dedication, service, and joy. After graduating from High School in Davenport, IA, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction for six years, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. His commitment to his country did not end there, as he later rejoined the military through the Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserves, eventually retiring as a Sergeant Major after 27 years of combined active and reserve service.
While stationed in Tokyo, Japan, Robert's life took a beautiful turn when he met and married the love of his life, Moon Ja Boo, affectionately known as Miko, on August 16, 1960. Together, they built a life filled with love and happiness, sharing a passion for bowling and the joys of family life.
Robert's professional journey was as varied and accomplished as his military service. After his active duty, he returned to Davenport and earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from St. Ambrose University. He embarked on a career with IBM and McGladry, Hansen, Dunn, and Company before retiring as a Special Agent with the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations. Even in retirement, his energy and enthusiasm let him to work as an usher for the MGM casino group after moving to Las Vegas.
A man of many talents, Robert was a gifted artist who loved to paint and draw, and a musician who found joy in playing the piano and guitar. Yet, it was his passion for magic that truly defined him. As a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, he captivated audiences with his performances and generously shared his craft with young magicians, especially during the years he owed a magic shop in Davenport, Iowa.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Miko, four children- Michael (LouAnn) and Craig(Elizabeth)- six beloved grandchildren- Ashley (Robert), Sarah (Joe), Cath and Renee- and nine great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
