Roger Emm, age 74, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Roger was born in Syracuse, New York to Agnes and Earl Emm. He grew up with his five siblings in a home that was not well off; so, when Roger was old enough to work he did. Roger had many jobs as a kid. he worked in a family owned Pharmacy-soda fountain-candy store, a grocery store, so he could get free milk and bread. He often helped farmers clearing the fields after harvest; mostly cabbage that he brought home, so they could make sauerkraut. Roger graduated from St. John the Baptist High School and went on to continue his education at the State University Agricultural and Technical College in Morrisville and received an A.A.S degree in Automotive Technology.
Roger spent most of his life working in construction, mechanic and technician jobs. In his earlier years, he worked as a surveyor, until he joined the the Beacon Research Laboratories of Texaco where he was assigned to the Combustion Section as a Technician. He also traveled with a road show called "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" as a carpenter for a while. Roger held other jobs working for various companies like Ford Motor Plant in Mahaw, Bob Iko in Walden, Plowing Snow at Yellow Freight in Maybrook, and John Hammon in Wallkill building Homes. Roger worked well with his hands on anything mechanic, and learned a lot of the trades on his own. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring antique cars, and building houses for himself and his family to live in.
While Roger was a little bit of a rebel at times, he had a heart of pure gold and was always ready to help anyone and anywhere. He was loving, funny and liked to do jokes. Although he had been married a couple of times, he was a proud father of four children, and loved them deeply.
In 1998, Roger would meet his soul mate and the love of his life, Ingrid Ragen, at Big Apple Circus Headquarters in Walden, New York; where Roger was working at the time. Everyday, Ingrid would bring in coffee and donuts for the workers, where he would stop in to talk with her and make sure she was ok with all of the noise going on. Soon, after many calls and dates, the couple would blend their lives and share their families; she completed him.
Later in life, Roger and Ingrid would enjoy many BBQ gathering with family and friends. He was a great cook and loved experimenting with spices in the food. The couple enjoyed going to casinos, spending time in the outdoors, going to free concerts, traveling on trips to Europe and going on cruises, and taking advantage of all that life had to offer. Unfortunately, Rogers health declined in 2017. He and Ingrid relocated their lives to Southern Nevada, to escape severe New York weather, and so Ingrid could be closer to her sister.
Roger lived his life to the fullest; always supporting his family and many friends, and will truly be missed.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Earl Emm; his mother, Agnes Emm; and his siblings: Eugene, Alan, and Rosalie Emm. He is survived by companion, Ingrid Ragen; his children: Steve Emm (Jennifer); Chris Emm (Wendy), Matthew Emm, and Jackie Emm; siblings: Matthew Emm and Elinore Emm; and his grandchildren: Brianna Weiss, Rachel Weiss, Addison Emm and Adeline Emm.
