

“Ramsey”

Ronald Edward Ramsey, known by most as simply, Ramsey, was born in Los Angeles, CA on December 29, 1941. He grew up around the Echo Park area. Ramsey was the oldest of three boys; a brother Jeffrey who passed at birth and the youngest brother Pat, who was 8 years younger.
Ramsey loved cars; looking at them, working on them and racing them. He had a great time helping his childhood buddy, Mike, rebuild many cars, in addition to building a dune buggy. He had fun owning 911 Porsches, one of which was stolen right in front of his house. Ramsey especially enjoyed participating with the Porsche club events including rally races.
Ramsey enjoyed sharing about many of his childhood adventures growing up rogue in a time when life was more free. He went into the navy when he was 17 and traveled the world, spending 2 ½ years at sea, enjoying time in Hawaii, Japan and Australia to name a few places he visited.
Ramsey was married at 22 and had two daughters, Traci & Kristi. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in 1965. He worked as a beat cop and served in the Watts Riots. He later achieved Sergeant and served as a homicide detective. On his “off time” he made his own machine and ran an acoustic ceiling business. His LAPD career was interrupted when he was shot through a door while serving a warrant which eventually led to his retirement.
Ramsey was always drawn to being his own boss and dabbled in different entrepreneurships, including starting a company, called The Fire Bug, selling smoke alarms back when it was a new idea to have one in your home. In addition, he also started a bar and disco-tech, called Flahrety’s. He later moved on to using his engineer brain to work in sales for Westinghouse and Cardox. Ramsey and his life partner, Judi met over 40 years ago and later moved to Henderson, NV in 1993 where he got a job as an inspector for the Nevada State Contractors Board where he worked until he retired at 62 1/2 exactly to the day! In his boredom He took a job for a short stint at Home Base, a home improvement store, which he enjoyed helping others with their projects. Ramsey always had a project in the works which kept his mind sharp and his body busy. It only took a year for him to get so bored he went back to work full-time where he secured a job with D.R. Horton as their customer complaint liaison and then he parlayed that into being a contractor for D.R. Horton where he once again got to be his own boss until he finally retired at 75.
For the last several years, Ramsey developed a hobby using his plasma cutter to create steel art which can be found in many of his friends’ and family’s homes along with many business establishments including the American Legion in Henderson NV. He also had a heart for homeless cats and took in many throughout his years in Henderson. He enjoyed working with his stepson, Patrick, on cars and various projects; they always had something in the works! Ramsey also enjoyed attending LAPD police retirement meetings and arguing politics, which often put him in “Facebook Jail.”
Ramsey stayed busy until the end. He was quite a character! Ramsey and Judi shared over 40 years together. He is survived by his 2 daughters: Traci and Kristi, 3 step kids: Becki, Patrick & Troy, 5 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren.
Ramsey was a man’s man who loved living life and definitely did life his way. We remember his hilarious and sometimes offensive sense of humor accompanied by his contagious laugh. He was greatly loved and He will definitely be missed.
