Ronald Kenneth SMITH

Ronald K. Smith of Henderson, Nevada died of cancer on April 10, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Ron was born on February 2, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Zula and Ruth Smith.

Ron graduated in 1962 from Liberty High School. He married his wife Paula Biggs in 1964. They had known each other since High School, through Paula’s younger brother Robert (Bobby) Biggs. They had two children, Renee and Eric. They also shared five grandchildren, Sean, Derek, Amara, Chance, and Blake, and four great-grandchildren, James, Aidan, Oliver, and Daniel. They loved to travel and to move, living in Missouri, Florida, California, Alaska, Colorado, and Nevada. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, traveling (especially to Hawaii), and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ron served in the Navy during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. After leaving military service he continued to serve by becoming a Police Officer. He worked on the Kansas City and Anchorage Police Departments. During his career he worked as a Juvenile Detective, Undercover Officer and with the Traffic Fatality Unit, retiring after 20 years of service in 1993 from the Anchorage Police Department. Ron is preceded in death by his son, Eric Smith, his parents, Ruth and Zula Smith, and his sister, Sharon Cantrell.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Paula, he is survived by: Daughter Renee Khan and husband Kamran Khan, Grandson Sean Brundin and wife April, Grandson Derek Khan and wife Amanda, Granddaughter Amara Khan, Grandson Chance Smith, Grandson Blake Smith, Great-grandchildren James, Aidan, Oliver, and Daniel, as well as Brother Gary Smith and wife Louise, Sister Margie Smith, Brother Patrick Smith and wife Caroline, Sister Roxanne Writesman and daughter Kaytlyn. Plus, many nieces, nephews, and close family friends.

Memorial Services will be held at Palm Mortuary on Boulder Highway in Henderson, Nevada. The services are on Sunday April 22nd at 2pm. Interment will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada on Monday April 23rd at 12:40pm.

I KNEW AND WORKED WITH RON ON THE KANSAS CITY MO. POLICE DEPT. HIS KIDS WENT TO SCHOOL WITH HIS CHILDREN.


WE LIVED AT LIBERTY HILLS COUNTRY CLUB. RON WAS ALWAYS A FUN GUY AND WAS A GOOD POLICE OFFICER I ENJOYED WORKING WITH HIM AND JIMMY WAREN WHO WAS ALSO A FRIEND OF RONS.
SORRY TO HEAR OF HIS DEATH.

I first met Ron in Sterling, Alaska a few years back. He immediately became a member of our family. Ron (Smitty) you will always be missed by Nellie and I.
