to his home planet (Saturn) on Monday, January 13, 2020.
Roy was born October 22, 1950 in Maysville Kentucky to Woodrow Wilson and Nancy
Lundblad (Staggs). Roy has three sisters and three brothers; Ronald, Wanda, Richard,
Diane, Timothy, & Lisa.
His family moved to Washington’s Yakima Valley when he was small. His childhood
best friend was Rudy Ruybal and Rudy’s sister, Marie Ruybal was like a little sister to him.
When his high school days came David Mitchell was added to his very small circle of best
friends. Roy kept in touch with his best friends through out the years. Roy went to A.C.
Davis High School and graduated in 1969. In his senior year he met the love of his life
Rosalie June Wilson. This love started with a spark of lighter and this began their
fantastic journey. Roy and Rosalie were married September 5, 1969 in Selah, WA. They
celebrated their Golden (50th) Anniversary this last year! Then he was off as he enlisted
in the United States Army. He went to Fort Gorgon Georgia (he hated the heat and
humidity) to attend MIT where he was trained as a Military Police Officer. He was then
stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. His love Rosalie went with him, as she was
always by his side no matter what. He returned from active duty and remained in the US
Army on reserved duty at the Yakima Firing Center until honorably discharged. After his
military service he was a Sheriff with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Department. He spent
most of his life in the Yakima Valley with many years in Harrah, WA where he raised his
children.
Roy continued his education at Yakima Valley Community college where he obtained
his Associates Degree. He then continued some years later at JM Perry Technical
Institute for small engine repair. He started his own “Roy’s Air-Cooled Engine Repair”
business. Roy enjoyed working with his hands, his love of building things took him on many
adventures. He built a trailer, a small boat out of wood, and fixed many small engines. He
also worked on his own vehicles and taught his daughter, Sabrina, how to work on
everything as she was always by his side. Roy loved hunting, fishing, camping and pretty
much anything that had to do with the outdoors. He always took his family camping many
times a year. He taught Sabrina and Roy Jr. to fish and hunt. He also loves games. Roy
and Rosalie would play pinochle with Walt and Sue McCartney on many weekends where
they would stay up through the wee hours of the morning. He and Rosalie would play
cribbage and other favorite games with their kids. Roy was a Star Wars fan and a
Trekkie, a trait he passed on to his daughter Sabrina. He Loved the universe and aliens,
he always said he was an alien from the planet Saturn only here to complete a mission.
Roy’s character was amazing! He had the biggest heart and the best sense of
humor, frequently gross and often immature humor. He could make you laugh and smile no
matter what. Even when he was not feeling good he would make sure if his kids or
grandkids wanted something fixed or wanted to play a game he was up and ready to go.
Though he may not have lasted as long as he wanted, he did his very best! His great
Grand-daughter Abbey (aka Abbeycakes) would come into his room and commandeer his
television in the middle of his shows & he would jokingly complain she would make him
watch dumb kid shows. If any of the grandkids got into trouble all they had to do was run
to him and he would say, “go away, I’ll take care of it!” Well, he would take care of it
alright, he’d have a talk and then hang out and watch T.V. The grandkids always knew
Papaw would save them.
Roy very much found a love for video gaming. He was a gamer for sure! He played
many games, but his favorites were Destiny and Ark. He made many friends when playing
online. He never got the pleasure of meeting Brian from Las Vegas, though they were
close and spoke on the phone a couple times a week on top of all the chatting during game
play. He was also very close to Shawn (aka Joker) from Illinois, they did get a chance to
meet via video chat. Shawn wanted him at his wedding and he was there via Skype.
Shawn called him a lot on the phone just to talk about life, cars, video games, and of course
how Grandpa (that’s what he called him) was doing. He also spoke to Godfather (Gamer
Name) from Canada! Though his real name is unknown, he knows he was important to Roy.
