Shirley Mae Smith (nee Hudgens), 76, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and family on September 6th, 2023. She was born on January 3rd,1947, in Reno, NV. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Shirley was known for her love of cooking and baking. She took great pleasure in preparing delicious meals and desserts for her family and friends. She was an avid bowler who excelled at the sport. She also enjoyed traveling alongside her husband and cherished the time they spent together exploring new places. One of her favorite destinations was their cabin in Swains Creek, where she would gather with loved ones making lasting memories.
Before retiring, Shirley worked as a waitress at Nick’s Supper Club, where she served patrons with warmth and a genuine smile. Her friendly nature and excellent customer service made her a beloved member of the restaurant’s staff. After retiring, Shirley was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Eagles Lodge Aerie 2672.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Gary Smith, and their children, Jimmy (Wendy) Reiland, Jennifer (Steve) Murphy, Brian (Michelle) Frieze, Paul Frieze and Michael (Gina) Frieze. Seven grandchildren, J.J. (Krystal) Reiland, Alex (Tony) Heilman, Jake Buonanno, Joey Murphy, Nick Murphy, Jade Frieze, Lilly Frieze and three great-grandchildren, Bentley Heilman, Abby Heilman and Kaleigha Reiland.
She is also survived by her 3 siblings, Terry (Jeri) Hudgens, Sherry (Al) Carroll and Theresa (Bob) Patterson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Hudgens, mother, Tessie Hudgens, Sister, Margaret Freeman, son, Donald Smith and brother, Jerry Hudgens.
A ceremony to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on October 6 th , 2023, at 12pm at Palm Mortuary located at 800 S Boulder Hwy, Henderson, NV 89015. A reception will be held following the services at 1017 Black Olive St, Henderson, Nv 89002. Shirley Mae Smith will be remembered for her warm heart, dedication to family, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
