Steven Alfred Moran, age 60, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021. He was born January 7, 1961, at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth Massachusetts, where his parents John and Marilyn Moran lived at the time. His brother Scott was born 19 months earlier on May 10, 1959. His sister Sheryl was born 16 months after that on May 26, 1962. His brother Sean Alan Moran was born on June 24, 1966, and died of SIDS on July 21, 1966, on his Father’s birthday. Sheila was born 14 months later, on September 2, 1967. The family moved briefly after the passing of his brother but moved back to South Weymouth where Steven would grow up.
In his early years, Steven participated in the Cub Scouts; and later went on to become Boy Scouts. He also participated in Farm League Baseball, first step before Little League. After showing little interest, Steven moved on to other things. Steven also served as Acolytes at his family's Church, Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, he later joined Demolay, a Christian organization for young men.
When Steven entered his teen years, the family moved to a larger home in South Weymouth where he lived until joining the U.S. Navy. As teenagers, both Steven and his brother worked in the kitchen at The Village Steak House not far from the house. It was there that Steven first became interested in cooking.
In the next few years, it became apparent that Steven was not interested in school so a decision was made that he would leave South Weymouth High School and join the U.S. Navy. He chose to enter submarine school in New London Connecticut; where he became disenchanted with his choice and moved on to be stationed in Hawaii where he was able to finish his tour in the U.S. Navy. During his 18+ years in Hawaii Steven would raise a family, complete his high school GED, work at various restaurants as a Chef, and owned a Woody’s hot dog cart. Steven would later move back to Massachusetts to work with his father John Moran at his printing business. In 2001 Steven decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada to be closer to his kids. It was there Steven then return to the U.S. Navy Reserves and saw action for the 2003 Invasion of Iraq stationed in Kuwait. While working in Nevada, his primary occupation was as a Culinary Specialist and Offset Duplicator Operator, where he was employed for 20 years by Clark County; and another 21 years as a Culinary Specialist for the U.S. Navy and other restaurants. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer and would continue his education to earn his Associates Degree in Graphic Design from CSN.
While living in Las Vegas to be closer to his children, Steven would meet Francisca. On Sept. 26, 2008, he would exchange wedding vows with her at the Heavenly Bliss Chapel of Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they would blend their lives and families. Steven was blessed with three children, two sons: Christopher and Joseph, and one daughter, Sharon. He was also blessed with two grandchildren, Randen and Sofia.
Steven was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather, who enjoyed all that life had to offer. He enjoyed reading books, carpentry, home improvement projects, and cooking from scratch for family, friends, and neighbors. His recreational sports included golfing, jogging, bowling, bicycling, and running. He also was something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite football team the New England Patriots win multiple Super Bowls. On the top of his list were watching football, golfing, basketball, and hockey. When it came time to travel or take a vacation, he enjoyed his trips with the family to Sedona, camping at Big Bear, taking trips to the Philippines, Hawaii, and Massachusetts.
When Steven’s retirement finally arrived in 2021, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in playing golf, bowling, bicycling, and exercising and spending time with his growing family and his closest friends: Daniel Nenno, David Robinson, Tony Suarez. He also went back to his love and passion for cooking at Reflection Bay Golf Resort as a part-time cook. In many ways, Steven loved retirement. It provided him with the opportunity to catch up with his friends, attend functions and group outings, and tackle new interesting activities.
All who knew him would agree that Steven was a pillar of the community. He lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Steven Alfred Moran did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched was given the chance to become a better person.
