Virginia Malczewski passed away on July 18, 2026, at age 93 in Henderson, Nevada. She was born in Detroit on May 21, 1933. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Malczewski, and by her parents, Alice and Victor, and her stepfather Paul Askey.
Virginia was dedicated to her family. She is survived by her children, Maureen (Chuck), Connie (Dave), Joan (Richard), Matthew (Jill) and Jim (Kerry). She was a loving grandmother to Jim, Amy, Branden, Suzy, Shannon, Samantha, Matthew, Sydney, Eero, Luke, Zora, Eli, Reily, Layne, Austen, Alyson, and Madelyne and great grandmother of Lily, Tyler, Dylan, Otis, Wren, Landon, Emma, Sloan, Charli, Laila, Eva, and Emery.
Virginia retired from Bernthal Packing in Frankenmuth, Michigan. More than anything, though, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than a cup of coffee, some cookies, and lots of conversation at the kitchen table with her family. She led by example, showing those around her how to be positive, cheerful, and kind. She never had a mean word to say about anyone. She also had a gift for distilling life's lessons into familiar sayings. Her children grew up hearing expressions like "love is blind" and "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." They often smiled at them at the time, only to discover years later that she had been right more often than not.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
