Walter "Bill" E. Lake, age 92, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Wednesday April 17, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones. "Bill", as he was known by family and friends, was born January 13, 1927, in Redoak, Iowa, and served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps from August of 1945 to April of 1947.
Bill ventured out and moved to Las Vegas in the summer of 1958. He started work at the Desert Inn Hotel that same year, and worked there for the next 38 years until he retired in 1996 as the head gardener.
In 1966, Bill met and married his love, Rosemary "Audy" Lake. Bill loved to fish, and was always in search of a fishing buddy. Bill and Audy loved to bowl and were on various bowling leagues. Bill and Audy joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and were sealed in the Las Vegas Temple. Bill held various callings in the church including The High Priest Group Leader.
Bill, being a farmer from Iowa, loved to work in the garden. He would have an over abundance of tomatoes, and radishes. He was also rather successful at growing pecan, apricot and apple trees. In addition, he had a great grape crop.
Bill was preceded in death by beloved wife, Audy; father, Carl; mother, Evelyn; and brother, James Lake. he is survived by his sons: Craig, Steve, and Michael; daughters: Holly, Sharon, Sandi, Debra, and Jennifer; sisters: Helen and Bunny; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation for Walter will be held Friday, April 26, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 303 S Cholla Street, Henderson, NV 89015. Bill will be laid to rest, with military honors at 12:30 PM at Palm Henderson Cemetery, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
