We are saddened to share that Walter Joseph Parazaider passed away peacefully at home in his sleep with his wife, JacLynn, by his side early on June 17, 2026. Walter was married to JacLynn for nearly sixty years, and they enjoyed a beautiful marriage, and they shared two amazing daughters, Laura and Felicia.
The founder of the legendary rock band Chicago, Walter was an accomplished musician. He was a big presence in the band and famous for his flute solo on the popular song, “Colour My World.” He was also a visionary and foundational piece of Chicago’s iconic, self-described “rock and roll band with horns” playing the saxophone and other woodwinds. He enjoyed a very successful career in music, and he retired in 2016 after his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Along with his extraordinary musical achievements, Walter remained most proud of his enduring marriage and family life. He often spoke with pride about the strength and longevity of his relationship with JacLynn, which he considered his most meaningful legacy. Walter will be remembered as a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, a precious human being, and a gifted musician.
Walter was a kind hearted soul who would want to be remembered as someone who genuinely cared about people. With his big smile and twinkle in his eyes, he is forever reminding us to “Keep your sunny side up.” His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Details regarding a memorial service will be shared at a later date.
