Emma Juana Figueroa

September 6, 1925February 19, 2021

Emma Juana Figueroa, age 95, of Cutler Bay, Florida passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021. Emma was born September 6, 1925 in Las Villas, Cuba.

Emma lived the definition of a full life and will be fondly remembered by her positive, cheerful outlook inspired by her deep faith. She had a long-standing relationship with God and we’re comforted knowing she peacefully left us to be in a better place joined by the love of her life Mario Figueroa.

Emma loved being around family and friends. She treasured her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She made friends everywhere, was the life of the party and loved to dance and have a good time. Many Sundays were filled with endless domino rounds and, later in her life, late night poker games where she would famously tip her hand by vehemently betting “un dollar” pre-flop if she had a pair of “asses” (Aces). It made us laugh and better yet it made her laugh. One of our greatest joys was hearing her contagious laughter because it truly came from deep within her soul.

Emma was famous for her delicious cooking. She never had trouble finding a handyman to help her when she needed something fixed because they all knew they would have a delicious meal and cafecito while they were there. And that’s after her many grandkids and great-grandkids had already stopped by to clear out her kitchen—but no matter how much we ate, she ALWAYS had food. And if she ran out of the meal she prepared for the day, don’t you worry, she had a marinated palomilla waiting as backup.

Emma was a ray of sunshine and loved bright colors. The family requests that those attending her service wear bright red—her favorite color and reflective of the endless love she gave. When you think of Emma, celebrate the good times because we know she would want her memory to be bright and full of life just like her.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that contributions in Emma’s memory may be made via Zelle or Venmo to Maria Guzman (305-903-0296) to carry out her living wishes.

Emma is survived by daughter Maria Guzman; and son Miguel Marante.

5 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren Juana Alonso (Second daughter) and family

A graveside service for Emma will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Caballero Rivero Dade North, 1301 NW Opa Locka Blvd, Miami, FL 33167.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.riverofuneralhomehialeah.com for the Figueroa family.

Yaya was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a grandmother and I consider myself lucky to have had that experience. I will always remember her by her faith; even though we didn’t even speak the same language, we didn’t need to. However, at our rehearsal dinner, Yaya busted out the English from out of nowhere! It wasn’t until 4 years after knowing her I heard her speak English, but I always took that as her just feeling comfortable with my and accepting me as part of her family and she busted out the English at the rehearsal in order to connect with mine, which meant the world. Her faith needed no words and has taught me how to live my own faith by my actions and how I treat others. Her house was always a place where anyone was welcome and I’ll always remember playing dominos or poker with her after a delicious home cooked meal (especially her maduros which she always made extra for me). Her laugh was so contagious and could light up any room. Her life has been nothing short of inspiring as I’ve been able to see, first hand, how one life can affect so many and how her family branches have created a legacy for her that will last forever. I feel so fortunate to be apart of her incredible family and can’t wait to see her again someday.

I only had the privilege of seeing her a few times during our Zumba celebrations. Her energy was so contagious. I loved hearing her stories. Her love of Christ was very evident. May she Rest In Peace and revel being surrounded by God’s glory.
