Gladys was born on December 15, 1944 in the Dominican Republic to Matilde Martinez. Both Gladys and her mother moved to the United States around the 1960’s. For 30 years she was accompanied by her life partner Euvon Grace (preceded her in death), who left us on April 23, 2009.
Gladys enjoyed serving the community and found every opportunity to do so, leading her into a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 45 years. She attended college at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine where she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Care Administration.
Mrs. Machado's passion was helping others, most especially the mentally and physically handicapped children. This passion inspired her to create a group home (Papito Group Home) in her own family’s house so she could provide adequate services that were necessary for them. In addition, she was an integral part of The Miami Children’s Foundation and worked as an Administrator at Monef Health Services, Inc.
Her interests included family gatherings, reading novels, Spanish Soap Operas and theatrical shows. She loved nothing more than to devote her time and energy as a caregiver to her family members.
Mrs. Gladys Machado is survived by nine; five men, four women, and their spouses. Miguel (Constance), Eunice, Joey, Hector, Stephanie (Steve), Kevin (Chiquita), Venita, Sonya (Carl) and Marvin (Tabitha); 15 grandchildren, Vanessa, La'Rae, Ajah, Tre’von, James, Sharnice, Kevin Jr., Donald, Dominique, Alexandra, Christopher, Jarquis, Mystique, Tamaria and Marvin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
