Guillermo Blanco, age 92, of Hialeah, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. His devoted wife of 67 years, Carmen Blanco, was by his side, holding his hand as he faded into eternity to begin his journey of Glory by the Lord’s side.
Born on July 22, 1933, in the small, coastal village of Santa Lucía in the westernmost province of Pinar del Río, Cuba, Guillermo was the son of Ramon and Margarita Blanco. He grew up with three brothers in a close-knit family that worked the rich tobacco fields and fished the clear Caribbean waters to provide for their household. These early years instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard work, resilience, and the simple gifts of the land and sea.
Dad came to the United States at the age of 22 seeking to improve his life financially. In this new chapter, he lived in New York City, learned to speak English, and began to work. It was working at Woolworth that he met my mother, Carmen Blanco.
Guillermo was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather & great-grandfather. He cherished time with his family and carried the values of his Cuban roots—strength, loyalty, and quiet determination—throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen, and sons, Steven & William Blanco. He is also survived by his granddaughters Kristina, Natasha, and Natalie and great-grand children Abby, Joshua, Eliana, Alessia, and Emilia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Margarita.
My father worked his way up to be the ABC News Miami Latin American bureau office manager from 1975 to 1991. His time at ABC began in NYC while working on the transport desk. He was so very happy at ABC mostly because of the daily relationships he forged. His colleagues became part of the family.
Guillermo’s legacy lives on in the stories of his humble beginnings, his enduring spirit, and the love he shared with all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
