Dear Dad, 

Everyday that passed you are so missed. I feel like some days you are going to come through that door but then I realized you are not.  I know you are now with your love ones and I am sure you are just fine. I do believe that those that passed away before us are waiting for us someday to welcome us. Death can't just be the end, when you have so much love for someone. I love you dad to end of times. 

I am so heart broken to not have you with us anymore Abuelo. You were such a caring, kind and gentle soul. I will miss seeing you bring happiness and life to all our family gatherings and of course your famous cooking. Christmas and holidays will never be the same without you. Your passion for soccer is what made me love the sport, even when you jokingly disapproved of me being a fan of Nacional over DIM. I still wore the DIM jersey you gave me with pride anyway. You always made me laugh and smile when you said we should go to Colombia together and find new girlfriends.
I will cherish all the beautiful moments we shared and never forget our time together. Grandparents are blessings that we don't usually get to keep our entire lives and I wish we had more time. I hope you can rest easy knowing you raised a beautiful family and will continue your legacy.

(1/2) Abuelo, writing this right now painfully reminds me of how precious our time is here. For as long as I can remember, I always remembered you being so happy (except when Colombia lost), surrounding yourself with family, making jokes, always excited and saying “AYEE!” whenever you saw us walk through your front door, and ALWAYS up for a good time - just like my dad. I remember looking forward to each Christmas because it meant it was time for Abuelo’s famous tamales and chorizos. I will always remember playing dominoes for the first time with you on Father’s Day a couple years ago, and we played for hours just having a fun time with everyone. I will never forget the time you and I passing each other the soccer ball outside your old house (between the gate and front door) and I yelled “HPTA!” when you scored, and you busted out laughing and told me “Shhh!! No le digas a tu papas donde aprendiste eso!” ...and we just kept on laughing. I will always remember joking with you saying “voy a casar con un Argentino” and you go “Por favor, no no no”. Abuelo said it would be a betrayal to the Colombian National soccer team (lol). One of my favorite memories was last 4th of July, and  we threw our own little quarantine celebration in our backyard, using the pool, making BBQ, and lighting fireworks. My boyfriend mitch made the most delicious strawberry mojitos for everyone and was officially called “El Mojito Man” lol.  Towards the end of the night, I’ll never forget how we all sat by the pool and shared stories & talked about how crazy 2020 was so far. One of my last conversations with you was only a few months ago. Right before you left my house, you asked me “Que vas a hacer cuando cumplas 80?” And I said, “Tomar guaro” and your eyes opened up so wide and just started laughing. We hugged, gave each other a kiss on a cheek and you left to go home. 

(2/2) Our conversations were always short and funny. My Spanish was never great, but we understood each other very well and made the best of of our sense of humor. Because of you Abuelo, we are all here. You created a beautiful family and you should be SO proud of the amazing sons, daughter and grandchildren you leave behind. It will never be the same without you. But we will do our best to always honor your memory wherever we go. Thank you for giving me the best dad in the world.  A piece of you will always be in him and in all of us. We will miss you. Tomamos una guarito cuando nos encontramos otra vez.

Abuelo, I’m still having a hard time believing you passed on. It doesn’t feel real. Yet, I know you are in peace smiling down on your family and watching them close. I’m sad you never had a chance to meet Mia, she’s a great kid and is so happy. Her happiness reminds me of you, because you were such an uplifting joyous man. Seeing her and knowing she has a piece of you will allow your memory to continue to live on and through a family you created. Love you and miss you dearly.

I remember one time my grandfather gave me a Manchester United jersey when I came down to visit. Unfortunately it was a XXL and at the time I was a medium so I didn't think he expected me to actually wear it. I just thought it was a nice gesture and cool thing to have. But the next day when he saw me not wearing the jersey I think he got a little upset. I felt bad because I think he thought I didn't appreciate it when I really did. I told him sorry and I put it on lol I still have the jersey but still only wore it once.

My grandfather was always a happy, fun loving  and generous man. I really can't think of a memory of my grandfather without him smiling and for that I am blessed. He will be missed by many. RIP Abuelo

Esto es muy duro perderte así. Nunca pensé que este año sería tan triste. Otro golpe a mi corazón. La casa vacía sin tu presencia. Otra vez le pido a Dios fuerzas para soporta esto. Te amo papi 

Tio, no encuentro palabras para expresar lo triste que esta mi corazón. Gracias por siempre traer la alegría donde estuvieras, por estar pendiente de tus hermanas. Nos dejas un vacío inmenso. Pero se que esta haciendo sonreír a todos los que te esperaban en el cielo.  Tenemos un angelito mas! 🕊

58 años casados. Era el uno para el otro. Todo lo hacían juntos. Esto si es amor. Mami te ama mucho y te amará toda una eternidad. No te preocupes mi papi que yo cuidaré de ella hasta final y nada le faltará como siempre se los prometí. Te amo por siempre mi viejo hermoso. 

My father-in-law was a man who love life and made friends easily everywhere he visited. Jairo De Jesus was an intelligent and resourceful man who could of accomplish great things if he had the childhood opportunities required to reach his goals. He was a night owl who loved watching the same action movies that I enjoy.  I remember the many late night conversations we had about life while we waited for Leon to return from work. He made me laugh with some of his funny stories.  I truly appreciated and respected him for accepting me into his family.  Rest in peace and I will miss you truly. Your daughter-in-law Evelyn

My father was a very charismatic person who was a very intelligent and friendly man.  One of his biggest accomplishments was bringing us {family} to this great country in search of a better life. Which we have because of his gamble to look for better things. We all have accomplished many positive things, and because of this I will always be grateful. My Dad would of achieve much more but his childhood was very tough and he came from a poor family who struggled. But this never stop him from fighting for us. As he got older he realized how much he was loved by his family and even though he had struggled most of his life he was able to enjoy accomplishments his children did with their lives. I’m thankful he was able to enjoy his grandchildren and great grandchildren. I will always cherish the moments we spent together. I will always love you and miss you dearly.  Your son Jairo Leon.

Abuelito lindo no era tu tiempo en irte pero toda las memorias lindas que me dejaste grabadas siempre van a estar conmigo en mi corazón. Se que estás bien y te fuiste en paz; esperaste hasta el fin. No diste una oportunidad más en verte y hablar contigo se que escuchaste todo lo que tú “Mija” te decía tu amor de tu vida.  Viviste una vida linda con tu esposa, hijos, hija, nietos, nietas y bisnieta. Te quiero tanto viejo se te extraña especialmente tu negra Mas linda Jada como decías. Hasta que nos encontremos otra vez te amó. Tu nieta Michelle Parra
