Mercedes Vazquez

Mercy was born on August 12, 1933 in Havana, Cuba to Pedro and Maria Vázquez. In the 1960s Mercy and her family left Cuba to Miami in search for a better life. In Miami, as a new citizen she worked to establish her roots at various factory jobs. Then soon after she settled in to her true calling which was caring for children.

Mercy had a passion and love for caring for loved ones which extended to caring for her late father and mother as well as her late sister, Lucila Martinez.

Although Mercy did not have any children, she was considered a mother by her great nieces, Carmen Labrada and Lourdes Mullin and great nephew, Jorge Rodriguez as well as many of the children she helped care for during her lifetime.

Not only was Mercy considered a mother, she was also considered a grandmother by Ava and Gabriel Mullin (children of Brian and Lourdes Mullin), Brayden Rice, Liam and Riley Rodriguez (sons of Jorge and Jessica Rodriguez). and Dalia and Elly Lee (daughters of Quinton and Carolina Lee).

Mercy had a keen sense of fashion which was ahead of its time and beautiful dark eyes that were unforgettable. She was known as a kind and compassionate person who loved the sunshine and ocean. This was evident from all the summers which her and her family rented at the beach during the summer.

Mercy was preceded in death by her father, Pedro, and her mother, Maria as well as her beloved sister, Lucila. She is survived by her niece Eva Rodriguez, Eva’s ex husband Alfonso Rodriguez with their two children and spouses Jorge and Jessica Rodriguez and Brian and Lourdes Mullin. She is also survived by her nephew, Jorge Martinez and his wife, Edicta Martinez and their daughter Carmen Labrada as well as their grandchildren Carolina and Annette Estadella who were also goddaughters to Mercy.

She will be forever missed and loved.

Mercy nació el 12 de agosto de 1933 en La Habana, Cuba de Pedro y María Vázquez. En la década de 1960, Mercy y su familia se fueron de Cuba a Miami en busca de una vida mejor. En Miami, como nueva ciudadana, trabajó para establecer sus raíces en varios trabajos de fábrica. Luego, poco después, se instaló en su verdadera vocación, que era cuidar niños.

Mercy tenía un agudo sentido de la moda que se adelantó a su tiempo y hermosos ojos oscuros que eran inolvidables. Le sobreviven su sobrina Eva Rodríguez, el ex marido de Eva Alfonso Rodríguez con sus dos hijos y cónyuges Jorge y Jessica Rodríguez y Brian y Lourdes Mullin. También le sobreviven su sobrino, Jorge Martínez y su esposa, Edicta Martínez y su hija Carmen Labrada, así como sus nietas Carolina y Annette Estadella, quienes también fueron ahijadas de Mercy.

Ella será extrañada y amada por siempre.
