Reinaldo Dorta

Reinaldo (Rey) Dorta, Sr., passed away August 6, 2021. Rey was born in Havana, Cuba on November 15, 1946, to Sinesio and Josefa Dorta, the youngest of four children. In 1961, he immigrated to the United States. Settling in Miami, he met the love of his life Maria (Mimiya) Luisa Dorta (Aguiar) whom he married in 1969.

One of his first jobs in Miami was cutting textile for a dress maker. Later, he used this trade to open and operate three wholesale clothing stores with his wife Mimiya. Living and working in Allapathah, Rey remained rooted in his community despite his success. Twenty years after opening their stores, he began working for Miami-Dade County as a bailiff for the Honorable Carlos Manuel Guzman. In 2021 he retired.

Always quick with a joke and having a never-ending smile, his personality was his biggest asset. Throughout his life in Miami, he made friends that became part of his family. Family was extremely important to Rey. During his life he taught his only son Rey, Jr., lifelong lessons on how to be a husband and father. He did it through example as evident in his 52 years of marriage. He was an exceptional father and grandfather always doting on his three grandchildren, loving them unconditionally.

His loss will be felt by all those he came in contact with from his friends, family, and those in the garment industry and the legal and judicial community. Aside from his sense of humor, contagious smile and love for his family, he will be remembered as a lover of single malt scotches, Cuban coffee, My Father’s Cigars and as a dominant domino player when partnered with Henry Lopez.

Rey is survived by his wife Mimiya; his only son Reinaldo J. Dorta, Jr.; his grandchildren Krystina Maria Dorta, Reinaldo J. Dorta, III, and Roberto Dorta; his sisters Maria Martinez and Lydia Barrinat; his nephews Armando Martinez, Jorge Martinez, Oscar Dorta, and Osmar Dorta; and his nieces Patsy Marie Dieguez Lopez, Patricia Arjona, Mayra Martinez, and Marta Perdomo. He will live forever in their hearts.

A visitation for Reinaldo will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Hialeah, 373 W 9 Street, Hialeah, FL 33010. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North, 3260 SW 8th St., Miami, FL 33135.
