Rene Jesus Cheng

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Rene Jesus Cheng, beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, on August 11, 2025. He was 96 years old.

Born on December 18th 1928 in Habana, Cuba. He was the 2nd youngest of 9 brothers and sisters. He spent his younger years in San Luis, Oriente, Cuba and later pursued a career as a Radio and TV Technician. His early spirit of adventure led him to Caracas, Venezuela, where he met Lilia, his beloved wife of 66 years. She was 18 and he was 29. Six months later they married on March 14th 1959. They welcomed their first son, Rene, on March 23rd 1960 in Cuba, and later a daughter, Diana, was born on April 3rd 1963 in New York.

Those who knew him, knew him as a strong, strict and silent type with deep love of roots and family. He enjoyed cruising and spending time at the casino.

He is survived by his wife, Lilia, his son Rene and wife Teresa, his daughter Diana, his grandchildren Nicole and husband Omar, Natalie, Christopher and his great-granddaughter Leia. He is also survived by extended family and and loving family friends.

His love and loyalty will be missed, but he will forever live in our hearts. We love you Papi! We hope you and your brother Mario are enjoying a cold one and reminiscing of the great gift of family you both had.

There will be a Memorial Service on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 6:00 p.m till 10:00 p.m at Caballero Rivero Hialeah, 373 W 9 Street, Hialeah, FL 33010
