Anne known as Susie to those who love her was born in Catawba County on September 8, 1935 to the late William Franklin and Nelle Louisa Jarrett Hollar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bennett F. Hollar and Theodore R. Hollar; a niece Cynthia F. Hollar and a nephew, Charles L. Hollar, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her former husband and friend, Paul W. Duffey, Sr.
Anne was a member of West Hickory Baptist Church. She was an administrative assistant and worked in the personnel department of Shuford Mills for over twenty-five years. Before retiring she was employed with Jamestowne Sterling furniture.
Known as Grandmommie to her family. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
Surviving are her son, Paul W. Duffey, Jr and his wife, Bonnie, her daughter, Kimberley D. Starnes and her husband, Sammy. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Aaron A. Duffey, Brandi B. Duffey, Heather S. Prestwood and husband, Adam ,Alex C. Starnes and Kelly L. McDevitt and by her most beloved great-grandchildren, Grace, Caleb, Addie and Jack. Surviving siblings are her brother, Charles L. Hollar and wife, Carolyn, Alfred C. Hollar and wife, Nancy, her sister, Elaine C. “Sissy” Poovey and husband, Kenneth, and a sister-in-law, Martha Hollar, as well as a large number of nieces , nephews, great nieces and great nephews that she loved as her own children.
The family wishes to recognize their Hospice “Angels”, Dr. Will Thompson, Amy, Katie, Hannah, Donna, Karen as well as many others with gratitude for the love, care and kindness shown through Miss Susie’s illness “You are a blessing!”
The family will receive friends at West Hickory Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 7, from 2:00 – 3:00 P. M. The service will follow immediately officiated by Pastor Scott Frady. Burial will take place in a private ceremony for the family prior to the service.
