Atwell Claude Elder

He was born on January 23, 1943, to the late Claude Elder and Vela Fincannon Elder in Alexander County.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Elder, brother, Hugh Elder, sister, Elizabeth Bridges.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Donna McPherson and husband Hal of Hickory, Donna’s Mother, Joyce Elder of Hickory, grandchildren; Amanda McPherson of Hickory, Jessica Gordon of Hickory, Zachary McPherson of Catawba, Joshua McPherson and wife Whittney of Charlotte, Zane McPherson of Hickory, Justin Gordon and wife Amber of Hickory, great grandchildren, Marlee McPherson, Roman Markham, Campbell McPherson, Rhys Gordon, Oliver Gordon; sisters, Joann Mashburn of VA Beach , Geraldine Cansler of Hickory and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Ric Smith will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
