Hickory - Barbara Travis Detter, 77, of Hickory, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center, after a year of declining health. Barbara was born July 17, 1936 in Catawba county to the late John Clifford Travis, and Blanche Hefner Travis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Barbara retired as an inspector having worked for Maxwell Royal Chair and from Clayton Marcus Furniture. She attended Disciples Mission Church, was a Sunday school teacher, and spent much of her life as a loving caregiver with her grandson and numerous others. Surviving is her husband, of 58 years, P.J. Detter of the home, daughter, Jamie Moretz and husband Dale of Hickory, and grandson Jeremy Moretz of Nashville, Tn., and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 3:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Cook and Rev. Jeremy Moretz officiating. Entombment will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Susan G Komen For The Cure, 5005 L. B. J. It was always a joy to speak with Barbara before the Sunday morning service would begin. She would have a smile and something to say. She will be missed by family and friends. You are all in our hearts and our prayers.
